Abstract The replicative cycle of the fungus herpes-type virus resembles that of herpesviruses of vertebrates. Assembly of the nucleocapsids occurs in the nucleus. During the passage from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, the nucleocapsids are temporarily enveloped by the two nuclear membranes. The two nuclear membranes are degraded in the cytoplasm, and the nucleocapsids then acquire a fibrillar coat.
