Ever since their discovery in the 1970’s, UltraLuminous InfraRed Galaxies (ULIRGs; classically L ir > 1012 L ⊙) have fascinated astronomers with their immense luminosities, and frustrated them due to their singularly opaque nature, almost in equal measure.
