Because interfaces impede phonon transport of thermal energy, nanostructuring can transform fully dense solids into ultralow thermal conductivity materials. Here we report a simple self-assembly approach to synthesizing organoclay nanolaminates with cross-planar thermal conductivities below 0.10 W m(-1) K(-1)-a 5-fold decrease compared to unmodified clay. These organoclays are produced via alkylammonium cation exchange with colloidally dispersed montmorillonite clay sheets followed by solvent…

Thermal insulation with 2D materials: liquid phase exfoliated vermiculite functional nanosheets.
TLDR
The ultrasound-assisted exfoliation and shear-mixing of a multi-phasic vermiculite in mild acidic aqueous solutions were employed to successfully obtain dispersions of mono- and few-layer thick clay nanosheets, which may enable in the future the generation of patterns of thermal insulators onto different surfaces by applying verMiculite nanOSheets in the form of dispersions and printable inks.
Thermal conductivity of amorphous Al2O3/TiO2 nanolaminates deposited by atomic layer deposition.
TLDR
The thermophysical properties of Al2O3/TiO2 nanolaminates deposited by atomic layer deposition (ALD) are studied as a function of bilayer thickness and relative TiO2 content, suggesting that interfaces have a non-negligible effect on thermal transport in amorphous nanolamination.
Flexible n-type thermoelectric materials by organic intercalation of layered transition metal dichalcogenide TiS2.

This work presents an approach to synthesize n-type flexible thermoelectric materials through a facile electrochemical intercalation method, fabricating a hybrid superlattice of alternating inorganic TiS2 monolayers and organic cations.
Ultralow thermal conductivity of multilayers with highly dissimilar Debye temperatures.
TLDR
The results demonstrate that MLs with highly dissimilar Debye temperatures represent a rational approach to achieve ultralow thermal conductivity in inorganic materials and can also serve as a platform for investigating interfacial thermal transport.
Anisotropic thermal transport in spray-coated single-phase 2D materials: synthetic clay vs. graphene oxide.
TLDR
Analysis of the textured structure, size of the platelets and chemical composition shows that Hec is a superior two-dimensional component compared to GO, and synthetic clay is a promising material for thermal management applications in electronic devices, where electrically insulating materials are prerequisite.
Ultralow thermal conductivity of two-dimensional metal halide perovskites.
TLDR
By systematically studying eight different two-dimensional hybrid perovskites, it is shown that the thermal conductivities of the authors' hybrid films do not depend on the thicknesses of the organic layers and instead are highly dependent on the relative orientation of theorganic chains sandwiched between the inorganic constituents.

TLDR
Using time-domain thermoreflectance, the thermal conductivity and elastic properties of a sputter deposited LiCoO2 film, a common lithium-ion cathode material, are measured as a function of the degree of lithiation to report the dependence of the Thermal conductivity on lithiation appears correlated with the lithiation-dependent phase behaviour.
