Ultra-wideband SSN suppression using novel electromagnetic band-gap structures


In this paper, we present a novel EBG structure with wideband suppression of the simultaneous switching noise (SSN) in high-speed printed circuit board. Meander lines, which are inserted into the patch, are used to increase the effective inductance of EBG patches. The novel design proposed here is validated numerically, the simulated results show the −30 dB suppression bandwidth ranges from 270 MHz to 15 GHz. The novel design are compared with the AI-EBG of the same parameters, the bandwidth is increased by about 346%, and the lower cut-off frequency is decreased by 830 MHZ. Good signal integrity performance can be obtained by using differential transmission lines.
