We consider the effect of the ultraviolet (UV) or short wavelength modes on the background of Brane Gas Cosmology. We find that the string matter sources are negligible in the UV and that the evolution is given primarily by the dilaton perturbation. We also find that the linear perturbations are well behaved and the predictions of Brane Gas Cosmology are robust against the introduction of linear perturbations. In particular, we find that the stabilization of the extra dimensions (moduli…

Linear cosmological perturbations in D-brane gases

We consider linear cosmological perturbations on the background of a D-brane gas in which the compact dimensions and the dilaton are stabilized. We focus on long wavelength fluctuations and find that

Moduli stabilization in brane gas cosmology with superpotentials

In the context of brane gas cosmology in superstring theory, we show why it is impossible to simultaneously stabilize the dilaton and the radion with a general gas of strings (including massless

The cosmology of massless string modes

We consider the spacetime dynamics of a gas of closed strings in the context of general relativity in a background of arbitrary spatial dimensions. Our motivation is primarily late time string gas

Dark energy and decompactification in string gas cosmology

We study the stability of extra dimensions in string gas cosmology at late times. Vacuum energy and, interestingly, baryons lead to decompactification after they become dynamically important. The

Moduli Stabilization with the String Higgs Effect

We review the notion of the Higgs effect in the context of string theory. We find that by including this effect in time dependent backgrounds, one is led to a natural mechanism for stabilizing moduli

Wrapped brane gas as a candidate for dark matter

We consider brane gas models based on type II string theories and analyze the mass, the Ramond-Ramond charge, and the charge on moduli fluctuations of branes wrapping over cycles of a compactified

Effective Field Theory Approach to String Gas Cosmology

We derive the 4D low energy effective field theory for a closed string gas on a time dependent FRW background. We examine the solutions and find that although the Brandenberger–Vafa mechanism at late

Supersymmetry breaking and dilaton stabilization in string gas cosmology

In this Note we study supersymmetry breaking via gaugino condensation in string gas cosmology. We show that the same gaugino condensate which is introduced to stabilize the dilaton breaks

Supersymmetry breaking and dilaton stabilization in string gas cosmology

In this Note we study supersymmetry breaking via gaugino condensation in string gas cosmology. We show that the same gaugino condensate which is introduced to stabilize the dilaton breaks

Dynamical decompactification from brane gases in eleven-dimensional supergravity

Brane gas cosmology provides a dynamical decompactification mechanism that could account for the number of spacetime dimensions we observe today. In this work we discuss this scenario taking into

In the context of homogeneous and isotropic superstring cosmology, the T-duality symmetry of string theory has been used to argue that for a background space?time described by dilaton gravity with

Inflation and brane gases

We investigate a new way of realizing a period of cosmological inflation in the context of brane gas cosmology. It is argued that a gas of co-dimension one branes, out of thermal equilibrium with the

Isotropization in Brane Gas Cosmology

Brane Gas Cosmology (BGC) is an approach to unifying string theory and cosmology in which matter is described by a gas of strings and branes in a dilaton gravity background. The Universe is assumed

Brane gas cosmology in M theory: Late time behavior

We investigate the late-time behavior of a universe containing a supergravity gas and wrapped 2-branes in the context of M theory compactified on ${T}^{10}.$ The supergravity gas tends to drive

Aspects of string-gas cosmology at finite temperature

We study string-gas cosmology in dilaton gravity, inspired by the fact that it naturally arises in a string theory context. Our main interest is the thermodynamical treatment of the string-gas and
