Typical representations via fixed point sets in Bruhat--Tits buildings

We establish two distinct and complementary sufficient conditions for the Mackey components of an essentially tame supercuspidal representation $\pi$ of an arbitrary connected reductive $p$-adic group $G$ to intertwine with representations of $G$ which are not inertially equivalent to $\pi$.
