We use recently updated globular cluster distances to estimate the distance to the Galactic centre, finding 7.4 \pm 0.2|stat \pm 0.2|sys kpc from symmetry considerations. We recalibrate the red clump magnitude from Hipparcos stars, finding a skew distribution and a significant difference between peak and mean magnitudes. We find an estimate from stars in the periphery of the bulge using 2MASS, R0 = 7.5 \pm 0.3 kpc, in agreement with the figure from the halo centroid. We resolve discrepancies in…

The distance to the Galactic center determined by G, K, and M stars
The distance from the Sun to the center of the Galaxy R0$R_{0}$ remains a fundamental parameter for Galactic structure. This study uses 105,275 G, K, and M stars of all luminosity classes with
Median Statistics Estimate of the Distance to the Galactic Center
We show that error distributions of a compilation of 28 recent independent measurements of the distance from the Sun to the Galactic center, $R_{0}$, are wider than a standard Gaussian and best fit
Influence of the Galactic bar on the kinematics of the disc stars with Gaia EDR3 data
A model of the Galaxy with the outer ring R1R2 can explain the observed distribution of the radial, VR, and azimuthal, VT, velocity components along the Galactocentric distance, R, derived from the
On the Shoulders of Giants: Properties of the Stellar Halo and the Milky Way Mass Distribution
Halo stars orbit within the potential of the Milky Way, and hence their kinematics can be used to understand the underlying mass distribution. However, the inferred mass distribution depends
Spatial distribution of galactic globular clusters : distance uncertainties and dynamical effects
We provide a sample of 170 Galactic Globular Clusters (GCs) and analyse its spatial distribution properties. Using a comprehensive dust cloud catalogue, we list the GCs that are behind one or more
The first all-sky view of the Milky Way stellar halo with Gaia+2MASS RR Lyrae
We exploit the first Gaia data release to study the properties of the Galactic stellar halo as traced by RR Lyrae. We demonstrate that it is possible to select a pure sample of RR Lyrae using only
Toward an Internally Consistent Astronomical Distance Scale
Accurate astronomical distance determination is crucial for all fields in astrophysics, from Galactic to cosmological scales. Despite, or perhaps because of, significant efforts to determine accurate

Models of the Galaxy with analytical Ferrers bars can reproduce the residual velocities of OB-associations in the Sagittarius, Perseus and Local System stellar-gas complexes located within 3 kpc
Determination of galactic rotation parameters and the solar galactocentric distance R0 from 73 masers
We have determined the Galactic rotation parameters and the solar Galactocentric distance R0 by simultaneously solving Bottlinger’s kinematic equations using data on masers with known line-of-sight
Determination of the Solar Galactocentric Distance from the Kinematics of Masers
Abstract We determine the parameters of Galactic rotation and the solar galactocentric distance R0 by simultaneously solving Bottlinger’s kinematic equations using data for masers with known

The distance to the galactic center derived from infrared photometry of bulge red clump stars
On the basis of the near-infrared observations of bulge red clump stars near the Galactic center, we have determined the galactocentric distance to be R0 = 7.52 ? 0.10 (stat) ?0.35 (sys) kpc. We
Estimation of the solar galactocentric distance and galactic rotation velocity from near-solar-circle objects
We have tested the method of determining the solar Galactocentric distance R0 and Galactic rotation velocity V0 modified by Sofue et al. using near-solar-circle objects. The motion of objects
Observations of stellar proper motions near the Galactic Centre
EVIDENCE for a massive black hole at the centre of our Galaxy has been accumulating for the past two decades 1−7. Estimates of the mass of this region have hitherto been based on the spectroscopic
Population effects on the red giant clump absolute magnitude, and distance determinations to nearby galaxies
The red giant clump has been recently argued to be a reliable distance indicator for the galaxies in the Local Group. The accuracy of distance determinations based on this method, however, depends on
Near-Solar-Circle Method for Determination of the Galactic Constants
We propose a method to determine the galactic constants R_0 (distance to the Galactic Center) and V_0 (rotation velocity of the Sun) from measurements of distances, radial velocities and proper
The Distance to the Galactic Center
The Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE) data on high-amplitude d Scuti stars (HADS) and RR Lyrae stars have been analyzed to determine the distance to the Galactic bulge. Individual color
The distance to the center of the Galaxy
For nearly a century astronomers have expended considerable effort to determine the size of the Milky Way. This effort is worthwhile because any change in the value of the distance from the Sun to
Globular Cluster Distances from RR Lyrae Stars
The most common methods to derive the distance to globular clusters using RR Lyrae variables are reviewed, with a special attention to those that have experienced significant improvement in the past
Extinction toward the galactic bulge from RR Lyrae stars
We present mean reddenings toward 3525 RR0 Lyrae stars from the Galactic bulge fields of the MACHO Survey. These reddenings are determined using the color at minimum V-band light of the RR0 Lyrae
Stellar populations in the Galactic bulge - Modelling the Galactic bulge with TRILEGAL
Aims. The aim of this paper is to study the characteristics of the stellar populations and the metallicity distribution in the Galactic bulge. We study the entire stellar population, but also
