very low (~1 m -2 y -1 ) and physicists are pressed to use indirect methods at energies above 1 PeV. The method of Extensive Air Shower (EAS) elaborated more than 50 years ago gave an instrument to study cosmic ray spectrum up to the highest possible energies. But, a shadow side of the method is a very difficult interpretation of the observed data. The Earth’s atmosphere is a rather thick calorimeter (~11 hadronic interaction lengths) which absorbs almost full energy of the primary particle… Expand
