Direct numerical simulations of the turbulent pipe flow of powerlaw fluids are analysed in order to understand the way in which shear thinning affects turbulence. For a generalised Reynolds number of 7500, as the fluid becomes more shear thinning, the log-layer mean velocity profile deviates further above the Newtonian case.
