The present study was aimed to investigate the effects of aqueous extract of four different varieties of Allium cepa (Onion) & Allium sativum (Garlic) on B16F10 Melanoma cell population by ex-vivo. For cytotoxicity assay, cellular micronucleus, apoptotic assay and cell viability assay were followed. Our results showed significant activity of garlic and onion as cytoprotective agents of normal cells and cytotoxicity agents for tumor cells. A significant decrease in Melanoma B16F10 cell…

Evaluation of in-vitro apoptosis induction, cytotoxic activity of Hymenodictyon excelsum (Roxb.) Wall in Dalton’s lymphoma ascites (DLA) and Lung fibroblast - Mouse L929 cell lines -
TLDR
It can be concluded that the methanolic bark extract of Hymenodictyon excelsum (Roxb)Wall exhibited apoptosis induction and cytotoxic activities.
INDUCTION OF APOPTOSIS AND CYTOTOXIC ACTIVITIES OF APIUM GRAVEOLENS LINN. USING IN VITRO MODELS
TLDR
It is confirmed that methanolic seed extract of Apium graveolens possess cytotoxicity and provoke DNA fragmentation, a sign of induction of apoptosis, and Apiumgraveolens may be a potential candidate in the field of anticancer drug discovery.
Characterization of Active Compounds of Different Garlic (Allium sativum L.) Cultivars
Abstract Garlic (Allium sativum L.) has a reputation as a therapeutic agent for many different diseases such as microbial infections, hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia, diabetes, atherosclerosis
Onion Extract Encapsulated on Nano Chitosan: a Promising Anticancer Agent
TLDR
This is considered the first study that tries to increase the anticancer activity of the onion extract with encapsulation on nano chitosan with the aim of improving the use of natural products in cancer therapy instead of chemotherapy.
Nutraceutic Potential of Two Allium Species and Their Distinctive Organosulfur Compounds: A Multi-Assay Evaluation
TLDR
The genomic safety of the assayed substances and their protective genetic effects against the hydrogen peroxide genotoxine were shown and it was suggested that supplementary studies are needed to clarify the cell death pathway against garlic and DADS.
PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSES, ANTIBACTERIAL, IN VITRO ANTIOXIDANT AND CYTOTOXIC ACTIVITIES OF ETHANOLIC EXTRACT OF SYZYGIUM CUMINI (L.) SEED EXTRACT
Phytochemical constituents present in the aqueous and ethanolic extract of Syzygium cumini seeds were investigated which were found to be responsible for its medicinal efficacy. The major

Antiproliferative activity of chloroformic extract of Persian Shallot, Allium hirtifolium, on tumor cell lines
TLDR
DNA fragmentation analysis revealed a large number of apoptotic cells in treated HeLa and MCF-7 cell groups, but no effects in L929 cells, therefore A. hirtifolium might be a candidate for tumor suppression.
Varietal differences in phenolic content and antioxidant and antiproliferative activities of onions.
TLDR
Onions are a major source of dietary flavonoids; however, there may exist varietal differences in composition, concentration, and beneficial activities, which may influence consumers toward purchasing onion varieties exhibiting greater potential health benefits and may significantly affect future breeding efforts to enhance onion nutritional qualities.
Antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties of garlic and onions
TLDR
This review is unique in its comprehensive nature, considering multiple different effects of the spices examined as well as their underlying mechanisms, including antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and antibacterial properties.
Garlic: a review of its medicinal effects and indicated active compounds
Numerous clinical trials with garlic cloves and standardized garlic powder tablets leave little doubt that modest amounts of garlic have significant cardiovascular effects by reducing serum
Impact of various sources of garlic and their constituents on 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene binding to mammary cell DNA.
TLDR
Several forms of garlic are effective, although variable, in altering carcinogen bioactivation and presumably chemically induced carcinogenesis, and dietary fortification with S-allylcysteine caused a progressive decrease in the binding of DMBA to DNA.
ECVAM retrospective validation of in vitro micronucleus test (MNT)
TLDR
The ECVAM Validation Management Team concluded that the in vitro MNT is reliable and relevant and can therefore be used as an alternative method to the standard in vitro CAT.
Eating garlic and onion: a matter of life or death
TLDR
Preliminary data from clinical studies suggest that the regular consumption of garlic and onion may prevent prostate cancer.
Garlic consumption and cancer prevention: meta-analyses of colorectal and stomach cancers.
TLDR
High intake of RC garlic may be associated with a protective effect against stomach and colorectal cancers and heterogeneity of effect estimates, differences in dose estimation, publication bias, and possible alternative hypotheses preclude sole reliance on summary effect estimates.
Fruit and Vegetables in Cancer Prevention
Abstract: Our aim was to review the epidemiological literature on possible cancer-preventive effects of the consumption of fruits and vegetables in humans, to quantify the effect of high versus low
Chronic lymphocytic leukemic B cells but not normal B cells are rescued from apoptosis by contact with normal bone marrow stromal cells.
TLDR
Contact between B-CLL cells and bone marrow stromal cells seems to play a major role in the accumulation and survival of B- CLL cells in the bone marrow, and direct contact between leukemic cells and stronal cells was found to be essential for inhibition of leukeMIC cell apoptosis.
