Trucidocynodon riograndensis gen. nov. et sp. nov. (Eucynodontia), a new cynodont from the Brazilian Upper Triassic (Santa Maria Formation)

title={Trucidocynodon riograndensis gen. nov. et sp. nov. (Eucynodontia), a new cynodont from the Brazilian Upper Triassic (Santa Maria Formation)},
author={T{\'e}o Veiga de Oliveira and Marina Bento Soares and Cesar Leandro Schultz},
An almost complete skeleton of a new carnivorous cynodont from the Upper Triassic of Southern Brazil, Trucidocynodon riograndensis gen. nov. et sp. nov., is described. The new taxon is very similar to Ecteninion lunensis Martinez et al. 1996 from Upper Triassic of Argentina (Ischigualasto Formation). Both have an elongated skull, large pterygoid flanges, a well developed orbitosphenoid, a relatively short osseous secondary palate, greatly developed canines and sectorial postcanines with…
Prozostrodon brasiliensis, a probainognathian cynodont from the Late Triassic of Brazil: second record and improvements on its dental anatomy
The second known specimen (CAPPA/UFSM 0123) of Prozostrodon brasiliensis is described, showing that the adult individual has more postcanine tooth morphotypes than the juvenile one.
Two New Cynodonts (Therapsida) from the Middle-Early Late Triassic of Brazil and Comments on South American Probainognathians
Two new cynodonts from the early Late Triassic of southern Brazil are described and the phylogenetic hypothesis presented herein indicates the degree to which knowledge on probainognathian cynodronts is incomplete and also the relevance of the South American fossil record for understanding their evolutionary significance.
A new prozostrodontian cynodont (Therapsida) from the Late Triassic Riograndia Assemblage Zone (Santa Maria Supersequence) of Southern Brazil.
Although the new taxon is based on few cranial elements, it represents a additional faunal component of the Triassic Riograndia AZ of southern Brazil, in which small-sized derived non-mammaliaform cynodonts, closely related to the origin of mammaliaforms, were ecologically well succeed and taxonomically diverse.
A New Prozostrodontian Cynodont (Eucynodontia, Probainognathia) from the Upper Triassic of Southern Brazil
ABSTRACT Probainognathian cynodonts are well represented in the fossil record from the Middle and Upper Triassic of South America, especially in Brazil and Argentina. In this contribution, we
A new non-mammaliaform eucynodont from the Carnian-Norian Ischigualasto Formation, Northwestern Argentina
61 ABSTRACT – The record of non-mammaliaformes eucynodonts from the Carnian-Norian Ischigualasto Formation is diverse and abundant, including a medium to large size herbivore and small carnivores.
The African cynodont Aleodon (Cynodontia, Probainognathia) in the Triassic of southern Brazil and its biostratigraphic significance
The first occurrence of the enigmatic African probainognathian genus Aleodon in the Middle-early Late Triassic of several localities from the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil is reported and a new species of Aleodon is proposed based on the specimens from Brazil.
A new cynodont from the Santa Maria formation, south Brazil, improves Late Triassic probainognathian diversity
The fossil record of non‐mammaliaform probainognathian cynodonts is outstanding in the Late Triassic rocks of Brazil and Argentina. Approximately 15 genera are known, providing unique insights in the
The lower jaw and dentition of the traversodontid Exaeretodon riograndensis Abdala, Barberena & Dornelles, from the Brazilian Triassic (Santa Maria 2 Sequence, Hyperodapedon Assemblage Zone)
The first fairly complete postdentary series of the mandible of E. riograndensis is described and additional information on its lower dentition is provided to improve the understanding of the anatomy of the Brazilian species.
A New Species of the Carnivorous Cynodont Chiniquodon (Cynodontia, Chiniquodontidae) from the Namibian Triassic
ABSTRACT Chiniquodontidae is a family of Triassic carnivorous cynodonts well represented in the Middle–Upper Triassic of Argentina and Brazil and, more recently, discovered in Madagascar and central
