We test the credit channel of monetary transmission. Our contribution lies in disentangling the impact of loan supply and loan demand by using the answers from the con…dential Bank Lending Survey for the Euro Area and the Senior Loan O¢ cer Opinion Survey for the US. National central banks and regional Feds respectively request from a sample of 90 and 60 banks quarterly information on the lending standards they apply and on the loan demand they observe.
