Populations of Athene owls are found in the mediterranean-type ecosystems of Chile (A. cunicularia cunicularia, formerly in the genus Speotyto), California (A. cunicularia hypugea), and Spain (A. noctua). We assess whether the tropic ecology of Athene owls in these chaparral habitats is more similar between these three populations than between any of these and populations in a different kind of habitat.
