Oxysterols, 27-carbon atoms cholesterol oxidation products, are consistently detectable in minimally oxidized low density lipoproteins (oxLDLs) and accumulate in the core of fibrotic plaques. Several oxysterols of pathophysiological interest have been shown to possess many and diverse biochemical activities.
