Proximity orbital and spin-orbital effects of graphene on monolayer transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) are investigated from first-principles. The Dirac band structure of graphene is found to lie within the semiconducting gap of TMDCs for sulfides and selenides, while it merges with the valence band for tellurides. In the former case, the proximity-induced staggered potential gaps and spin-orbit couplings (all on the meV scale) of the Dirac electrons are established by fitting to a… Expand
Influence of interface induced valley-Zeeman and spin-orbit couplings on transport in heterostructures of graphene on WSe2
We investigate the electronic dispersion and transport properties of graphene/${\mathrm{WSe}}_{2}$ heterostructures in the presence of a proximity induced spin-orbit coupling (SOC) using a low-energyExpand
Superconductivity in twisted graphene NbSe2 heterostructures
We study the low-energy electronic structure of heterostructures formed by one sheet of graphene placed on a monolayer of ${\mathrm{NbSe}}_{2}$. We build a continuous low-energy effective model thatExpand
Spin-orbit-proximitized ferromagnetic metal by monolayer transition metal dichalcogenide: Atlas of spectral functions, spin textures, and spin-orbit torques in ${\rm Co}/{\rm MoSe}_2$, ${\rm Co}/{\rm WSe}_2$, and ${\rm Co}/{\rm TaSe}_2$ heterostructures
The heterostructures composed of an ultrathin ferromagnetic metal (FM) and a material hosting strong spin-orbit (SO) coupling are the principal resource for SO torque and spin-to-charge conversionExpand
Single and bilayer graphene on the topological insulator Bi2Se3 : Electronic and spin-orbit properties from first principles
We present a detailed study of the electronic and spin-orbit properties of single and bilayer graphene in proximity to the topological insulator Bi$_2$Se$_3$. Our approach is based onExpand
Proximity-induced spin-orbit coupling in graphene/ Bi1.5Sb0.5Te1.7Se1.3 heterostructures
The weak intrinsic spin-orbit coupling in graphene can be greatly enhanced by proximity coupling. Here we report on the proximity-induced spin-orbit coupling in graphene transferred by hexagonalExpand
Intrinsic spin-valley-coupled Dirac state in Janus functionalized β-BiAs monolayer.
TLDR
It is identified that strain-free BrBiAsCl ML is an intrinsic svc-DSM that is located at the boundary between 2D trivial insulators and topological insulators owing to the balance between spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and the built-in polarized vertical electric field. Expand
Spin-orbit interaction induced in graphene by transition metal dichalcogenides
We report a systematic study on strong enhancement of spin-orbit interaction (SOI) in graphene driven by transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). Low temperature magnetotoransport measurements ofExpand
Quantum Anomalous Hall Effects in Graphene from Proximity-Induced Uniform and Staggered Spin-Orbit and Exchange Coupling.
TLDR
An effective model of proximity modified graphene with broken time-reversal symmetry with staggered intrinsic spin-orbit and uniform exchange coupling gives topologically protected pseudohelical states, whose spin is opposite in opposite zigzag edges. Expand
Protected Pseudohelical Edge States in Z_{2}-Trivial Proximitized Graphene.
TLDR
Topological properties of models that describe graphene on realistic substrates which induce proximity spin-orbit coupling in graphene are investigated, finding that the spin character and robustness of the pseudohelical modes is best exhibited on a finite flake, which shows that the edge states have zero g factor and carry a pure spin current in the cross section of the flake. Tunable spin–orbit coupling and symmetry-protected edge states in graphene/WS 2
We demonstrate clear weak anti-localization (WAL) effect arising from induced Rashba spin–orbit coupling (SOC) in WS_2-covered single-layer and bilayer graphene devices. Contrary to the uncoveredExpand
