Children with special needs: An assessment of needs and coverage by services

The National Insurance Institute is the body in Israel responsible for social security benefits to the population. AH residents are automatically insured and the service include benefits for old age and survivors, maternity leave, work injuries, accident injuries, rights of workers in bankruptcy, unemployment, disability, child allowances, reserve military duty and long-term nursing care for the elderly. Since 1981 children with severe disabilities have also been entitled *o the Disabled Child Benefit The number of children receiving benefits from 1981-99 is presented (about 0.7 % of all Israeli children). According to data from this recent National study it is suggested to triple the number of children receiving the benefit (presently 14,000 children receives).
