In research for successful treatment of fish parasitized by monogeneans, four substances (Praziquantel, Niclosamide, Levamisole-HCl, and Metrifonate) were tested in vivo against Gyrodactylus aculeati parasitizing the skin of sticklebacks (Gasterosteus aculeatus). Fish were incubated in water containing different solutions of the drugs. Praziquantel, Niclosamide and Levamisole-HCl were effective against Gyrodactylus aculeati. Praziquantel caused irreversible lesions in the parasite tegument… Expand

Treatment of fish parasites
TLDR
For chemotherapy in fish parasitized by monogeneans, toltrazuril was tested in vivo and in vitro against gill-parasitizing species and caused irreversible lesions in the tegument of Dactylogyrus species and P. bini, causing death in Dip. Expand
Efficacy of praziquantel and a combination anthelmintic (Adecto®) in bath treatments against Tagia ecuadori and Neobenedenia melleni (Monogenea), parasites of bullseye puffer fish
TLDR
The efficacy of praziquantel (PZQ) and a combination anthelmintic commercialized under the name of Adecto (Adler Pharma) were evaluated in vitro against adults and eggs of the diclidophorid Tagia ecuadori and the capsalid Neobenedenia melleni, finding neither PZQ nor AdECTo® were effective at inhibiting egg hatching. Expand
Effectiveness of treatments against eggs, and adults of Haliotrema sp. and Euryhaliotrema sp. (Monogenea: Ancyrocephalinae) infecting red snapper, Lutjanus guttatus
TLDR
This study indicates that praziquantel, freshwater, and formalin baths were effective against ancyrocephaline adults from red snapper, and sodium hypochlorite would be useful to prevent horizontal infection with eggs on fish-rearing facilities. Expand
Sym. triazinone (toltrazuril) effective against fish-parasitizing Monogenea
TLDR
By means of light, scanning and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), it was clearly demonstrated that toltrazuril caused damage to the tegument of Dactylogyrus species and P. bini, and fish with extensive skin lesions should carefully be observed during treatment, because this factor decreases their drug tolerance. Expand
The effects of trichlorfon, praziquantel and copper sulphate on various stages of the monogenean Benedeniella posterocolpa, a skin parasite of the cownose ray, Rhinoptera bonasus (Mitchill).
TLDR
Eggs were relatively resistant to these chemicals; however, trichlorfon and praziquantel were the most effective in killing eggs. Expand
Use of praziquantel to control platyhelminth parasites of fish
TLDR
Studies testing the efficacy of praziquantel for treatment of platyhelminthes are reviewed along with an assessment of routes of administration, pharmacokinetics, and toxicity information. Expand

Efficacy of Aqui-S, formalin and praziquantel against the monogeneans, Benedenia seriolae and Zeuxapta seriolae, infecting yellowtail kingfish Seriola lalandi lalandi in New Zealand
TLDR
This study assessed the efficacy of bath administrations of Aqui-S, formalin and praziquantel against adults and eggs of Benedenia seriolae and Zeuxapta Seriolae, two monogenean ectoparasites of kingfish, to indicate that both primary and secondary treatments will be required to successfully control B. serioae and Z. seriolaae infections in captive kingfish. Expand
Treatment of Microcotyle sebastis (Monogenea: Polyopisthocotylea) Infestation with Praziquantel under Commercial Rockfish (Sebastes schlegeli) Culture Conditions
TLDR
Feeding the praziquantel-supplemented diet was effective for controlling M. sebastis infestation in practical commercial rockfish-culture systems without imposing any handling stress. Expand
In vitro effect of seven antiparasitics on Acolpenteron ureteroecetes (Dactylogyridae) from largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides (Centrarchidae).
TLDR
The utility of characterizing in vitro responses with video microscopy to document responses of fish parasites for initial screens of drug effects on a fish monogenean is demonstrated. Expand

Treatment of fish parasites
TLDR
It is suggested that therapy against Monogenea and Dactylogyrus extensus in carp fingerlings may be done with 10 mg praziquantel/l for 3 h at 22° C during storage in smaller tanks. Expand
Treatment of fish parasites
TLDR
The effects of five nematocidal drugs on the nematode Anguillicola crassus were tested under in vivo conditions and it was found that levamisole and metrifonate were most effective in a freshwater bath for 24 h. Expand
Ultrastructural investigations on the effects of praziquantel on human trematodes from Asia: Clonorchis sinensis, Metagonimus yokogawai, Opisthorchis viverrini, Paragonimus westermani and Schistosoma japonicum.
TLDR
It is assumed that the very dense texture of the thick tegument is responsible for the relative refractoriness to praziquantel in vitro, however, in vivo the parasite is successfully eliminated by prazquantel. Expand
Effects of fasciolicidal and anti-cestode agents on the respiration of isolatedHymenolepis diminuta mitochondria
TLDR
The effects of 6 other fasciolicidal or anti-cestode agents and 2,4-dinitrophenol on the respiration of the mitochondrial preparation showed effects similar to those of oxyclozanide; their relative potencies are compared. Expand

TLDR
A brief description of the pathology resulting from Schistosoma japonicum infection, and ways in which it can be investigated, and reports of the application of ultrasound in investigating lesions in schistosomiasis japonica are given. Expand
