In the period 1986-1990 a total of 69 patients with advanced prostate cancer and urinary retention underwent orchiectomy followed by removal of the indwelling catheter during the 3 month/postoperative period. The mean follow-up time was 32 months. Regarding urination after catheter removal the success-rate was 62% (43/69) and 84% of these patients were satisfied with the procedure.
