Various techniques have been practiced as the surgical management of the esophageal varices. Recently, in our department, we have performed cardiac resection followed by the beta-type esophagojejunostomy together with gastrostomy, and have obtained good clinical results, which will be here presented. Furthermore, the significance of the cardiac resection for this disease will be discussed from the standpoint of the electric intraluminal pressure tracing of the esophagus.
