A number of parallel sequences are examined in the paper. The sequences, subject to transposition and other structural shifts, cannot be described as narrow cases rather than as a common stylistic attribute in the scribal tradition of pre-missionary Easter Island. Although the performances may respond to sporadic and/or impulsive errors, the most plausible cause seems to be linked to the scribe's quibbling with, or poring over satisfactory choices during the compilation of texts.
