We report on a global, three-dimensional GRMHD simulation of an accretion torus embedded in a large-scale vertical magnetic field orbiting a Schwarzschild black hole. This simulation investigates how a large-scale vertical field evolves within a turbulent accretion disk and whether global magnetic field configurations suitable for launching jets and winds can develop. We find that a coronal mechanism of magnetic flux motion, which operates largely outside the disk body, dominates global flux…
Black hole jets without large-scale net magnetic flux
We propose a scenario for launching relativistic jets from rotating black holes, in which small-scale magnetic flux loops, sustained by disc turbulence, are forced to inflate and open by differential
Magnetic Field Transport in Accretion Disks
The leading models for launching astrophysical jets rely on strong poloidal magnetic fields threading the central parts of their host accretion disks. Numerical simulations of magneto-rotationally
THE LARGE-SCALE MAGNETIC FIELDS OF THIN ACCRETION DISKS
Large-scale magnetic field threading an accretion disk is a key ingredient in the jet formation model. The most attractive scenario for the origin of such a large-scale field is the advection of the
Global MHD simulations of disk-magnetosphere interactions: accretion and outflows
Abstract We outline recent progress in understanding the accretion of plasma to rotating magnetized stars obtained from global axisymmetric (2D) and 3D magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations in three
The Large-scale Magnetic Field of a Thin Accretion Disk with Outflows
The large-scale magnetic field threading an accretion disk plays an important role in launching jets/outflows. The field may probably be advected inwards by the plasma in the accretion disk from the
Large scale magnetic fields in viscous resistive accretion disks - I. Ejection from weakly magnetized disks
Aims. Cold steady-state disk wind theory from near Keplerian accretion disks requires a large scale magnetic field at near equipartition strength. However the minimum magnetization has never been
LARGE-SCALE MAGNETIC FIELD IN ACCRETION DISKS AND RELATIVISTIC POYNTING-FLUX JETS
In earlier works we pointed out that the disk's surface layers are non-turbulent and thus highly conducting (or non-diffusive) because of hydrodynamic and/or magnetorotational (MRI) instabilities are
Anchoring polar magnetic field in a stationary thick accretion disk
We investigate the properties of a hot accretion flow bathed in a poloidal magnetic field. We consider an axisymmetric viscous resistive flow in the steady state configuration. We assume the dominant
Global Evolution of an Accretion Disk with a Net Vertical Field: Coronal Accretion, Flux Transport, and Disk Winds
We report new global ideal MHD simulations for thin accretion disks (with thermal scale height H/R=0.1 and 0.05) threaded by net vertical magnetic fields. Our computations span three orders of
Black Hole Magnetospheres
This chapter compares and contrasts winds and jets driven by the two distinct components of the black magnetosphere: the event horizon magnetosphere (the large scale magnetic field lines that thread

Magnetically Driven Accretion Flows in the Kerr Metric. IV. Dynamical Properties of the Inner Disk
This paper continues the analysis of a set of general relativistic three-dimensional MHD simulations of accreting tori in the Kerr metric with different black hole spins. We focus on bound matter
Advection/Diffusion of Large-Scale B Field in Accretion Disks
Activity of the nuclei of galaxies and stellar mass systems involving disk accretion to black holes is thought to be due to (1) a small-scale turbulent magnetic field in the disk (due to the
MAGNETICALLY DRIVEN ACCRETION IN THE KERR METRIC. III. UNBOUND OUTFLOWS
We have carried out fully relativistic numerical simulations of accretion disks in the Kerr metric. In this paper we focus on the unbound outflows that emerge self-consistently from the accretion
The Influence of Magnetic Field Geometry on the Evolution of Black Hole Accretion Flows: Similar Disks, Drastically Different Jets
Because the magnetorotational instability is capable of exponentially amplifying weak pre-existing magnetic fields, it might be hoped that the character of the magnetic field in accretion disks would
Launching of jets and the vertical structure of accretion disks
The launching of magnetohydrodynamic outflows from accretion disks is considered. We formulate a model for the local vertical structure of a thin disk threaded by a poloidal magnetic field of dipolar
Magnetically Driven Jets in the Kerr Metric
We compute a series of three-dimensional general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic simulations of accretion flows in the Kerr metric and investigate the properties of the resulting unbound outflows.

The dynamics and structure of accretion disks, which accumulate a vertical magnetic field in their centers, are investigated using two- and three-dimensional MHD simulations. The central field can be
Stability of relativistic jets from rotating, accreting black holes via fully three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations
Rotating magnetized compact objects and their accretion discs can generate strong toroidal magnetic fields driving highly magnetized plasmas into relativistic jets. Of significant concern, however,
