We use micro particle image velocimetry (microPIV) and fluorescence microscopy techniques to characterize microscale segmented gas-liquid flow at low superficial velocities relevant for chemical reactions with residence times of up to several minutes. Different gas-liquid microfluidic channel networks of rectangular cross section are fabricated in poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) using soft lithography techniques. The recirculation motion in the liquid segments associated with gas-liquid flows as…

Liquid velocity distribution in slug flow in a microchannel
The liquid velocity distributions in two-phase slug flows in a nearly rectangular microchannel etched on a microfluidic chip were investigated using a three-dimensional tracking method for submicron
Influence of hydrodynamics on liquid mixing during Taylor flow in a microchannel
The miscible liquid-liquid two phases based on Taylor flow in microchannels was investigated by high-speed imaging techniques and Villermaux/Dushman reaction. The mixing based on Taylor flow was much
Frequency dependent multiphase flows on centrifugal microfluidics.
TLDR
A technique to generate common gas-liquid flows on a centrifugal microfluidic platform that consists of a spiral microchannel and specific micro features that allow for temporal and local control of stratified and slug flow regimes is presented.
Transport of a Micro Liquid Plug in a Gas-Phase Flow in a Microchannel
TLDR
The experimental work to examine the dynamics of a micro liquid plug in the gas phase in a microchannel found that the liquid plug starts splitting when the inertial force exerted by the fluid overcomes the surface tension.
OPTICAL MEASUREMENTS OF CHEMICAL REACTION BY GAS DISSOLUTION IN A GAS-LIQUID MICROCHANNEL FLOW
Abstract The present study focuses on the mass transfer process through a gas-liquid interface in a microchannel flow. The objective is to investigate the CO2 dissolution process in water as the

An integrated multiphase flow sensor for microchannels
The flow regimes of microscale multiphase flows affect the yield and selectivity of microchemical systems, and the heat transfer properties of micro heat exchangers. We describe an integrated optical
Formation of droplets and mixing in multiphase microfluidics at low values of the Reynolds and the capillary numbers
This paper reports an experimental characterization of a simple method for rapid formation of droplets, or plugs, of multiple aqueous reagents without bringing reagents into contact prior to mixing.
Microfabricated multiphase packed-bed reactors : Characterization of mass transfer and reactions
A microchemical device has been built in silicon and glass by using microfabrication methods including deep-reactive-ion etch technology, photolithography, and multiple wafer bonding. The
Surface-directed liquid flow inside microchannels.
TLDR
The ability to confine liquid flow inside microchannels with only two physical walls is expected to be useful in applications where a large gas- liquid interface is critical, as demonstrated here by a gas-liquid reaction.
The motion of long bubbles in polygonal capillaries. Part 1. Thin films
Foam in porous media exhibits an unusually high apparent viscosity, making it useful in many industrial processes. The rheology of foam, however, is complex and not well understood. Previous
Handling of Picoliter Liquid Samples in a Poly(dimethylsiloxane)-Based Microfluidic Device
Transportation, metering, and mixing of picoliter-sized liquid samples were realized in a microfluidic device with a main working area of one square millimeter. The device was constructed by sealing
Design and fabrication of microfluidic devices for multiphase mixing and reaction
Using silicon microfabrication technology, microchemical devices have been constructed for the purpose of conducting heterogeneously catalyzed multiphase reactions. The motivation behind the design,
The motion of long bubbles in polygonal capillaries. Part 2. Drag, fluid pressure and fluid flow
This work determines the pressure–velocity relation of bubble flow in polygonal capillaries. The liquid pressure drop needed to drive a long bubble at a given velocity U is solved by an integral
