The actions and interactions of transforming growth factor-a (TGFa) and TGF/3 on growth and differentia- tion of bovine thecal cells were investigated. Bovine thecal interna cells were isolated from small ( 10 mm) antral follicles and cultured in the presence or absence of TGFa and/or TGF/3. Both ( 3 H)thymidine incorporation and changes in cell number (i.e. DNA levels) were evaluated to determine effects on thecal cell growth. Short term treatment of cells with TGFa (18-24 h) stimulated…
Investigation Of Transforming Growth Factor-Alpha And Its Potential Role In Promoting Ovarian Follicular Dominance
TLDR
Results indicate TGF stimulates proliferation of bovine GCs from small antral follicles via a MAPK/ERKmediated mechanism, but this action alone fails to prevent apoptosis, suggesting TGF  may be incapable of promoting the persistence of follicles during the process of follicular selection and deviation.
Effects of transforming growth factors-alpha and -beta on proliferation and apoptosis of rat theca-interstitial cells.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that TGF-alpha and -beta stimulate proliferation of both steroidogenically active and inactive T-I cells and protects T- I cells from apoptotic death, and these effects of TGFs may be important in physiologic maintenance of ovarian mesenchymal growth and homeostasis.
Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) maintains follicular ultrastructure and stimulates preantral follicle growth in caprine ovarian tissue cultured in vitro
TLDR
TGF-β showed additional effect on the follicle growth and the maintenance of ultrastructural integrity of goat preantral follicles enclosed in ovarian tissue when used at 10ng/mL during seven days of culture.
Transforming growth factor-α inhibition of luteinizing hormone-stimulated androgen production by ovarian theca-interstitial cells: mechanism of action
TLDR
The data demonstrate that TGFα inhibition of TIC androgen production involves suppression of P450scc and P45017α mRNA expression by inhibiting LH stimulation of PKA activity.

Differential involvement of protein kinase C in the regulation of transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) secretion by porcine theca and granulosa cells in vitro.
TLDR
Results argue against a direct role of theprotein kinase A pathway in the regulation of TGF-beta expression in porcine follicle cells and support direct involvement of the protein kinase C pathway.
Transforming growth factor-beta1 is a potent inhibitor of interleukin-1beta action in whole ovarian dispersates.
TLDR
The data suggest that TGFbeta1 is capable of inhibiting several IL-1beta-stimulated endpoints and might play antagonistic roles in the normal ovulatory sequence, and has been identified as a possible proinflammatory mediator of ovulation.
Developmental and hormonal regulation of hepatocyte growth factor expression and action in the bovine ovarian follicle.
TLDR
The results suggest that LH may promote ovarian follicular growth in part by stimulating the local production of HGF by theca cells, which may be essential for establishing the granulosa cell population and microenvironment required for oocyte maturation in the female.
Direct actions of kit-ligand on theca cell growth and differentiation during follicle development.
TLDR
KL is identified as the first granulosa cell-derived growth factor that can directly stimulate theca cell growth and androstenedione production in the absence of gonadotropins.

Transforming growth factor-beta promotes differentiation of ovarian thecal-interstitial cells but inhibits androgen production.
TLDR
The results lead us to conclude that the TIC are targets for TGF beta; IGF-I increases the sensitivity of TIC to TGF Beta action; and TGFbeta acts directly on Tic to stimulate progesterone while inhibiting androgen production.
Bifunctional role of transforming growth factor-beta during granulosa cell development.
TLDR
Results indicate that TGF beta modifies FSH action during granulosa cell development in a biphasic manner, and these are due to alterations in cAMP action as well as cAMP production.
Epidermal growth factor influences growth and differentiation of rat granulosa cells.
TLDR
EGF also inhibited the FSH-induced aromatase activity in the presence of TGF beta, which augmented FSH action on this system, emphasizing the multifunctional nature of EGF in influencing the growth and differentiation of immature rat granulosa cells.
Differential effects of epidermal growth factor, somatomedin-C/insulin-like growth factor I, and transforming growth factor-beta on porcine granulosa cell deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis and cell proliferation.
TLDR
Under defined conditions, EGF, Sm-C, and TGFb act synergistically to promote DNA synthesis in primary cultures of porcine granulosa cells.
The Effect of Transforming Growth Factor-β on Follicle-Stimulating Hormone-Induced Differentiation of Cultured Rat Granulosa Cells*
TLDR
Transforming growth factors caused a dose-dependent increase in FSH-stimulated LH/hCG receptor binding, but had no effect on binding in the absence of FSH; TGFB (10.0 ng/ml) further increased FSHstimulated RH/h CG receptor binding by 48 ± 8% (P < 0.02).
Transforming growth factor beta and follicle-stimulating hormone promote rat granulosa cell proliferation.
TLDR
It is shown that the combined actions of FSH and TGF beta influence DNA synthesis and the proliferation of rat granulosa cells.
Ovarian transforming growth factor-beta (TGF beta): cellular site(s), and mechanism(s) of action.
TLDR
Findings are in keeping with the notion that TGF beta, possibly of intraovarian origin, comprises the central signal of autocrine or paracrine loop capable of amplifying gonadotropin action at the level of the granulosa, but not theca-interstitial cell.
Transforming growth factor‐α attenuates the acquisition of aromatase activity by cultured rat granulosa cells
TLDR
TGFα, like EGF, acting at subnanomolar concentrations, is capable of attenuating the FSH‐stimulated (but not basal) accumulation of estrogen, thereby reaffirming the prospect that ligands of the EGF/TGF α receptor may play a modulatory role in the course of granulosa cell ontogeny.
The production of transforming growth factor-beta activity by rat granulosa cell cultures.
TLDR
It is concluded that rat GC preparations secrete a high level of TGF beta activity in vitro, indicating the possibility that TGFbeta may be an autocrine regulator as well as a paracrine one within the ovarian follicle.
Regulation of steroidogenesis in cultured porcine theca cells by growth factors.
TLDR
In conclusion, insulin IGF-I, IGF-II, EGF, and TGF beta can modulate steroidogenesis in porcine theca cells.
