Salvianolic acid A (Sal A) was considered to be the compound with highest activity in Salvia miltiorrhiza (danshen). Due to its low content in raw materials, many studies reported its preparation from salvianolic acid B (Sal B). However, the process of this transformation is still unknown. Our objective was to find the chemical change of the transformation from Sal B to Sal A. The results showed that Sal B was hydrolyzed to lithospermic acid (LA) first, and the latter was transformed into Sal A…

Salvianolic Acid B Inhibits High-Fat Diet-Induced Inflammation by Activating the Nrf2 Pathway.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that Sal B could effectively attenuate inflammation by activating the Nrf2-mediated antioxidant defense system.
Degradation Kinetics and Mechanism of Lithospermic Acid under Low Oxygen Condition Using Quantitative 1H NMR with HPLC-MS
TLDR
The results proved that the Q-NMR combined with HPLC-MS method can be one of the most promising techniques for investigating degradation process of active components in TCM.
Comparative proteomic analysis of the response to silver ions and yeast extract in Salvia miltiorrhiza hairy root cultures.
Marker compounds contents of Salvia miltiorrhiza Radix depending on the cultivation regions
Salvia miltiorrhiza Radix is cultivated in Korea and China and is traditionally used to treat cardiovascular diseases. In this study, we developed and validated a quantitative analysis method for S.
Lithospermic acid attenuates 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridine-induced neurotoxicity by blocking neuronal apoptotic and neuroinflammatory pathways
TLDR
Lithospermic acid is a potential candidate drug for the novel therapeutic intervention on Parkinson’s disease because it significantly attenuates all of the effects induced by MPP+.
The Novel Chinese Medicine JY5 Formula Alleviates Hepatic Fibrosis by Inhibiting the Notch Signaling Pathway
TLDR
A novel JY5 formula, consisting of salvianolic acid B, schisantherin A, and amygdalin, the main active ingredients of FZHY, significantly alleviated hepatic hydroxyproline content and collagen deposition in CCl4-and BDL-induced fibrotic liver in rats and mice.
The First Total Synthesis of (±)-Methyl Salvianolate A Using a Convergent Strategy
TLDR
A convergent, practicable and first total synthesis of the natural product, (±)-methyl salvianolate A, is reported, using a Horner–Wadsworth–Emmons reaction and the protection of multiple hydroxyls using silyl protecting groups.

Chemical characteristics of Salvia miltiorrhiza (Danshen) collected from different locations in China.
TLDR
The chemical characteristics of Salvia miltiorrhiza was significantly different from Salvia przewalskii, an adulterant of danshen, and salvianolic acid B, rosmarinic acid, cryptotanshinone, and tanshinones I and IIA were optimized as markers for the evaluation, which is helpful in the quality control of S. miltIORrhiza.

This is the first reports of the NMR spectra of isolithospermic acid and this result may indicate the metabolic pathways of Sal B in vivo.
Effects of salvianolic acid a on oxidative stress and liver injury induced by carbon tetrachloride in rats.
TLDR
Treatment with salvianolic acid A provides a potent protective effect against acute hepatic damage caused by CCl(4) in rats, which may mainly be related to its antioxidative effect.
Antiviral effects of Salvia miltiorrhiza (Danshen) against enterovirus 71.
TLDR

Ameliorative effect of Grewia tenax (Forssk) fiori fruit extract on CCl(4)-induced oxidative stress and hepatotoxicity in rats.
TLDR
The observed hepatoprotective effect is believed to occur due to antioxidant properties of the contents of G. tenax extract, which may provide a new drug to be used for fighting liver diseases and it validates its folkloric use in anemic and other conditions.
Salvianolic acid A protects against vascular endothelial dysfunction in high-fat diet fed and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats
TLDR
The data suggested that SalA could protect against vascular VED in diabetes, which might attribute to its suppressive effect on oxidative stress and AGEs-induced endothelial dysfunction.
