Transesophageal atrial stimulation was applied in 56 patients to terminate atrial flutter. Extrastimulation and atrial burst techniques were applied using programmable stimulator (Medtronic 5328) and hexapolar esophageal electrode catheters. Thirty patients were randomized to receive digoxin pretreatment (group A), and 26 patients were randomized to receive procainamide pretreatment (group B). Efficacy of each pretreatment was evaluated by observing the change in the rhythm. In group A… Expand
Device and methods for performing transesophageal stimulation at reduced pacing current threshold
In order to reduce pacing current threshold in transesophageal stimulation, a novel multi- channel transesophageal pacemaker and multichannel esophageal lead has been developed. Three differentExpand

TLDR
A novel method of combining very short electric pulses (splitting the impulse) from different locations which resulted in desired current density and pulse length in target tissue could be less painful for patient than routinely used single 10ms current pulse. Expand
Precise Positioning of Electrodes at Transesophageal Atrial Stimulation Using Multichannel Transesophageal Pacemaker and Lead
TLDR
Precise positioning of pacing lead according to individual optimum allowed reduction of pacing current threshold 20% in average over standard bipolar transesophageal method at approximately 50% of patients. Expand
Method for Reducing Pacing Current Threshold at Transesophageal Stimulation
TLDR
In order to reduce pacing current threshold at transesophageal stimulation use of additional chest electrode was studied, and use of chest electrode lowered pacing current over standard bipolar transesophileal methods. Expand
