The oral bioavailabilities of phenolic acids in Flos Lonicerae Japonicae beverage were low. The observation from an in vitro Caco-2 cell model showed that the absorptions of phenolic acids were mainly permeated via paracellular diffusion, and influenced by P-glycoprotein (P-gp), multidrug resistance-associated protein 2 (MRP2) and breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP). Besides, the Papp (AP→BL) values in Flos Lonicerae Japonicae were significantly higher than those of monomers, which was…
Study on the Rationality for Antiviral Activity of Flos Lonicerae Japonicae-Fructus Forsythiae Herb Couple Preparations Improved by Chito-Oligosaccharide via Integral Pharmacokinetics
TLDR
It was found that the integral absorption, both in vitro and in vivo, especially that in Shuang-Huang-Lian, can be improved significantly by COS, an absorption enhancer based on tight junction.
Protective Effects of Aqueous Extracts of Flos lonicerae Japonicae against Hydroquinone-Induced Toxicity in Hepatic L02 Cells
TLDR
The results demonstrated that the toxicity of HQ was mediated by intracellular oxidative stress, which activated DNA damage and apoptosis, and proved that aqueous FLJ extracts exerted protective effects against HQ-induced cytotoxicity in hepatic L02 cells.
Effects of a Chlorogenic Acid-Containing Herbal Medicine (LASNB) on Colon Cancer
TLDR
Investigation into the underlying molecular mechanism indicated that LASNB suppressed the activation of receptor tyrosine kinase- (RTK-) MEK-ERK and NF-κB pathways, which has the potential to be used as a supplementary herbal medicine for the treatment of colon cancer.
Gastrointestinal interactions, absorption, splanchnic metabolism and pharmacokinetics of orally ingested phenolic compounds.
TLDR
The present work is focused on the gastrointestinal (GI) interactions that are relevant to the absorption and metabolism of PCs and how these interactions impact their pharmacokinetic profiles.
Further exploring the absorption and enterocyte metabolism of quercetin forms in the Caco‐2 model using nano‐LC‐TOF‐MS
TLDR
A simple but sensitive methodology based on nano‐LC‐TOF‐MS is performed, using an on‐line trapping step, to overcome limitations in the analysis of flavonoids using the Caco‐2 intestinal model.
Separation of Five Iridoid Glycosides from Lonicerae Japonicae Flos Using High-Speed Counter-Current Chromatography and Their Anti-Inflammatory and Antibacterial Activities
TLDR
The anti-inflammatory tests showed that compounds 1–5 all expressed moderate inhibitory effects on β-glucuronidase release in rat polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) induced by platelet-activating factor (PAF), while the antibacterial assays demonstrated that all the compounds displayed mild inhibitory activities against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923.

Improvement of Intestinal Absorption of Forsythoside A and Chlorogenic Acid by Different Carboxymethyl Chitosan and Chito-oligosaccharide, Application to Flos Lonicerae - Fructus Forsythiae Herb Couple Preparations
TLDR
Chito-oligosaccharide (COS) at dosage of 25 mg/kg could enhance intestinal permeabilities significantly as well as the in vivo bioavailabilities of both FTA and CHA than CMCs in Flos Lonicerae - Fructus Forsythiae herb couple preparations, and was safe for gastrointestine from morphological observation.
Nutriomic analysis of fresh and processed fruit products. 2. During in vitro simultaneous molecular passages using Caco-2 cell monolayers.
TLDR
Major indications that phytochemical absorption does not occur in the small intestine were obtained from the bioassay condition selected, and Pectin substances were predicted to be responsible for the disappearances of bioactive compounds in those pectin-rich fruits.
Differential effects of flavonoids on barrier integrity in human intestinal Caco-2 cells.
TLDR
The results suggest that various flavonoids participate in the regulation of intestinal TJ barrier integrity and that this regulation may partially contribute to the flavonoid-mediated biological effects on the authors' health.
Study on the Main Components Interaction from Flos Lonicerae and Fructus Forsythiae and Their Dissolution In Vitro and Intestinal Absorption in Rats
TLDR
Caffeic acid derivatives in Flos Lonicerae-Fructus Forsythiae herb couple could be considered as chemical markers for quality control of its preparations and revealed the discrepancy between herb couple and single herbs in the view of biology.
The isoflavone genistein inhibits internalization of enteric bacteria by cultured Caco-2 and HT-29 enterocytes.
TLDR
Genistein was associated with inhibition of enterocyte internalization of enteric bacteria by a mechanism that might be related to the integrity of the enterocyte tight junctions, suggesting that genistein might function as a barrier-sustaining agent, inhibiting extraintestinal invasion of enterIC bacteria.
Novel bioassay system for evaluating anti-oxidative activities of food items: Use of basolateral media from differentiated Caco-2 cells
TLDR
A novel assay system by focusing on the bioconversion of food constituents using differentiated Caco-2 cells as a model of human intestinal epithelial cells indicates that the present assay system is appropriate and reliable for determination of the anti-oxidative efficacy of dietary phytochemicals in vivo.
Polymethoxylated flavones in orange juice are inhibitors of P-glycoprotein but not cytochrome P450 3A4.
TLDR
It is concluded that methoxyflavones contained in orange juice enhanced vinblastine uptake by specifically inhibiting drug efflux via P-gp and may have potential as agents for reversing multidrug resistance or for recovering the bioavailability of certain drugs.
