}ArcA is a global transcription factor required for optimal growth of Escherichia coli during anaerobic growth. In this study, the role of ArcA on the transcriptional regulatory subnetwork of the fad regulon was investigated. Gene expression profiles of deletion mutants (Delta arcA, Delta fadR and Delta arcA/Delta fadR) indicated that (i) ArcA is a major transcription factor for the transcriptional regulation of fatty acid metabolism in the absence of oxygen, and (ii) ArcA and FadR cooperatively…

Crosstalk of Escherichia coli FadR with Global Regulators in Expression of Fatty Acid Transport Genes
- BiologyPloS one

Escherichia coli FadR plays two regulatory roles in fatty acid metabolism. FadR represses the fatty acid degradation (fad) system and activates the unsaturated fatty acid synthetic pathway.…

Mapping of the fadH promoter and document its complex regulation by three independent regulators, the fatty acid degradation FadR repressor, the oxygen-responsive ArcA-ArcB two-component system, and the cyclic AMP receptor protein-cyclicAMP (CRP-cAMP) complex.
Global effects of the transcriptional regulators ArcA and FNR in anaerobically grown Salmonella enterica sv. Typhimurium 14028s.
- Biology
- 2008
The first report on the global role of these two redox regulators in S. Typhimurium is presented, hypothesize that FNR plays a more heirarchical role than ArcA in pathogenesis and during the transition between aeroand anaerobiosis in the host.
A New Member of the Escherichia coli fad Regulon: Transcriptional Regulation of fadM (ybaW)
- BiologyJournal of bacteriology
- 2009
The high basal level of fadM expression under diverse growth conditions suggests that the encoded thioesterase has functions in addition to beta-oxidation, and it is found that the conjugated linoleic acid isomer was only a weak inducer of f adM expression.
The Bacterial Response Regulator ArcA Uses a Diverse Binding Site Architecture to Regulate Carbon Oxidation Globally
- BiologyPLoS genetics
- 2013
This work provides new mechanistic insight into how the balance between reduced and oxidized electron carriers is regulated at the level of gene expression by mapping the regulon of the response regulator ArcA from Escherichia coli, which responds to the quinone/quinol redox couple via its membrane-bound sensor kinase, ArcB.
Analysis of the ArcA regulon in anaerobically grown Salmonella enterica sv. Typhimurium
- BiologyBMC Microbiology
- 2010
The results demonstrated that in S. Typhimurium, ArcA serves as a transcriptional regulator coordinating cellular metabolism, flagella biosynthesis, and motility, and a set of 120 genes whose regulation was shared with the anaerobic redox regulator, Fnr.
Escherichia coli Unsaturated Fatty Acid Synthesis
- BiologyThe Journal of Biological Chemistry
- 2009
Data indicate that the key reaction in UFA synthesis catalyzed by FabB is elongation of the cis-3-decenoyl-ACP produced by FabA, and thioesterases specific for hydrolysis of short chain acyl-ACPs have been followed in vivo for the first time.
TetR-family transcriptional repressor Thermus thermophilus FadR controls fatty acid degradation.
- Chemistry, BiologyMicrobiology
- 2011
Results indicate that in T. thermophilus HB8, medium-to-long straight-chain fatty acids can be used for metabolic energy under the control of FadR, although the major fatty acids found in this strain are iso- and anteiso-branched-chain (C15 and 17) fatty acids.
The Highly Conserved MraZ Protein Is a Transcriptional Regulator in Escherichia coli

- 2014
It is shown that overproduction of Escherichia coli MraZ inhibited cell division and was lethal in rich medium at high induction levels and in minimal medium at low induction levels, suggesting that MRAZ and MraW have antagonistic functions.
