The target DNA sequences of several classes of plant transcription factors, including basic leucine zipper (bZIP) proteins and Myb-related factors, have been characterized in vivo as well as in vitro. The bZIP proteins, for example, act at ACGT elements, the flanking nucleotides determining their binding specificities.
