Nucleotide excision repair (NER) of UV-induced cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs) was measured in the individual strands of transcriptionally active and inactive ribosomal genes of yeast. Ribosomal genes (rDNA) are present in multiple copies, but only a fraction of them is actively transcribed.
