We describe a method to track particles undergoing large displacements. Starting with a list of particle positions sampled at different time points, we assign particle identities by minimizing the sum across all particles of the trace of the square of the strain tensor. This method of tracking corresponds to minimizing the stored energy in an elastic solid or the dissipated energy in a viscous fluid. Our energy-minimizing approach extends the advantages of particle tracking to situations where…

Rapid, topology-based particle tracking for high-resolution measurements of large complex 3D motion fields

TLDR
A single particle tracking algorithm is demonstrated to reconstruct large complex motion fields with large particle numbers, orders of magnitude larger than previously tractably resolvable, thus opening the door for attaining very high Nyquist spatial frequency motion recovery in the images.

SerialTrack: ScalE and Rotation Invariant Augmented Lagrangian Particle Tracking

We present a new particle tracking algorithm to accurately resolve large deformation and rotational motion fields, which takes advantage of both local and global particle tracking algorithms. We call

A hybrid 3D particle matching algorithm based on ant colony optimization

TLDR
It was shown that this hybrid ACO algorithm has higher matching accuracy than those of exiting ACO methods based on either minimum displacement function or relaxation function and its credibility in dealing with the scenarios of large relative particle displacement was demonstrated.

Measuring Surface Tensions of Soft Solids with Huge Contact-Angle Hysteresis

The equilibrium contact angle of a droplet resting on a solid substrate can reveal essential properties of the solid’s surface. However, when the motion of a droplet on a surface shows significant

Surface elastic constants of a soft solid.

TLDR
Through microscopic observations of the contact-line geometry of a partially wetting droplet on an anisotropically stretched substrate, two surface-elastic constants are measured that quantify the linear dependence of the surface stress of a soft polymer gel on its strain.

The role of crosslinking density in surface stress and surface energy of soft solids.

TLDR
By comparing the surface mechanics of the soft gels with their bulk rheology, the surface properties near the critical density k0 were found to be closely related to the underlying percolation transition of the polymer networks.

Vinculin and the mechanical response of adherent fibroblasts to matrix deformation

Cells respond to the mechanics of their environment. Mechanical cues include extracellular matrix (ECM) stiffness and deformation, which are primarily sensed through integrin-mediated adhesions. We
