We have performed a coordinated focused ion beam (FIB)-scanning and transmission electron microscopy (S/TEM), electron probe microanalysis (EMPA)-synchrotron X-ray fluorescence (SXRF) microprobe study to determine phase-specific microstructural characteristics and high-resolution in situ trace element concentrations of primary pyrrhotite, pentlandite, and associated metal grains from chondrules in CM2 and CR2 carbonaceous chondrites. This work is the first of its kind to link trace element… Expand

PRIMARY PRISTINE AND ALTERED IRON SULFIDES IN CM AND CR CARBONACEOUS CHONDRITES: INSIGHTS INTO NEBULAR AND PARENT BODY PROCESSES
This work presents our detailed investigation of textures and major, minor, and trace element compositions of iron sulfides in CM and CR carbonaceous chondrites using scanning electron microscopyExpand
The relationship of CH, CB, and CR chondrites: constraints from trace elements and Fe-Ni isotope systematics in metal
Abstract Due to similarities in chemical composition and common Cr, Ti, N and O isotope trends, the metal-rich CR, CH and CB chondrites, often referred to as CR clan chondrites, are thought to beExpand
Variation in trace element content of magnetite crystallized from a fractionating sulfide liquid, Sudbury, Canada: Implications for provenance discrimination
Abstract Laser ablation ICP-MS analysis has been applied to many accessory minerals in order to understand better the process by which the rock formed and for provenance discrimination. We haveExpand
Trace elements in chondritic stratospheric particles - Zinc depletion as a possible indicator of atmospheric entry heating
Major-element abundances in 11 C, C?, and TCA cosmic dust particles have been measured using SEM and TEM energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) systems. The Fe/Ni ratio, when coupled with major elementExpand
Trace element geochemistry of CR chondrite metal
We report trace element analyses by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry of metal grains from 9 different CR chondrites, distinguishing grains from chondrule interiorExpand
Sulfides from martian and lunar basalts: Comparative chemistry for Ni, Co, Cu, and Se
Abstract Here Mars and Moon are used as “natural laboratories” with Moon displaying lower oxygen fugacities (~IW-1) than Mars (~IW to FMQ). Moon has lower concentrations of Ni and Co in basalticExpand
The nanoscale mineralogy of Fe,Ni sulfides in pristine and metamorphosed CM and CM/CI-like chondrites: Tapping a petrogenetic record
We have sampled sulfide grains from one pristine CM2 chondrite (Yamato [Y-] 791198), one thermally metamorphosed CM2 chondrite (Y-793321), and two anomalous, metamorphosed CM/CI-like chondritesExpand
Impact history of the Chelyabinsk meteorite: Electron microprobe and LA-ICP-MS study of sulfides and metals
Abstract Electron microprobe and LA-ICP-MS study of sulfides and metals from two fragments of the LL5 Chelyabinsk meteorite were conducted. The fragments are impact breccias, one fragment containsExpand
Fe‐Ni metal and sulfide minerals in CM chondrites: An indicator for thermal history
Abstract– CM chondrites were subjected to aqueous alteration and, in some cases, to secondary metamorphic heating. The effects of these processes vary widely, and have mainly been documented inExpand
Synchrotron X-ray fluorescence analysis of rock-forming minerals
Abstract Synchrotron X-ray fluorescence analysis (SXRFA) is compared with other microanalytical techniques including electron microprobe analysis (EMPA), particle-induced X-ray emission (PIXE),Expand
