We aimed to investigate IgG antibody levels specific to Toxocara canis (T. canis), a parasite which subsists in dog's intestine, on serum samples obtained from patients with chronic urticaria (CU) to evaluate effective risk in CU etiopathogenesis. In this study, 73 patients diagnosed with CU and 109 healthy individuals as control group, were included. Various factors such as sex, age, education and income, daily hand washing habits, history of dog owning and soil eating were questioned in… Expand
Sources and seroprevalence of toxocariasis in Turkey.
TLDR
It is still not well understood to what extent the infection is responsible for a plethora of ascribed symptoms and standardisation of the diagnostic methods and the use of molecular techniques could further throw light in the real epidemiology and the role played by the infection to induce signs and symptoms. Expand
Urticaria and silent parasitism by Ascaridoidea: Component-resolved diagnosis reinforces the significance of this association
TLDR
Both ascarids seem to be associated with urticaria, although in the authors' region, Anisakis seems to have greater involvement than Toxocara in this relationship. Expand
Toxocara spp. seroprevalence in pregnant women in Brasília, Brazil.
TLDR
A direct relationship between toxocariasis and contact with pets was observed, but there was no relationship with the miscarriage prevalence. Expand
High seroprevalence of Toxocara antibodies in pregnant women attending an antenatal clinic at a university hospital in Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
BACKGROUND Human toxocariasis is a neglected zoonotic disease and its impact on human health is underestimated. Studies investigating the occurrence of toxocariasis in pregnancy are very scarce inExpand
Toxocariasis; A Neglected Tropical Disease, Association With Asthma, Chronic Urticaria and Unexplained Neurologic Manifestations Among Children
TLDR
The association between Toxocara canis infection and allergic diseases such as bronchial asthma, chronic urticaria and unexplained neurological manifestations, was confirmed in the present work and contact with dogs and cats was the major determinant risk factor explaining such association. Expand
Association between urticaria and nematode infections.
TLDR
Although a routine screening of parasitic infection in CU is not recommended, in the authors' opinion, testing a patient with urticaria for parasites is a physician's choice based on the characteristics of the patient, such as associated symptoms, dietary habit, provenance country and previous travel. Expand
The relationship between Toxocara species seropositivity and allergic skin disorders: a systematic review and meta-analysis
TLDR
The results of this study support hypotheses regarding the existence of a positive relationship between Toxocara infection and allergic disorders, although this association should be further investigated by longitudinal and mechanism studies. Expand
Role of Liver and Cardiac Enzymes as Markers of Parasite Load and Recovery after Treatment in Experimental Murine Toxocariasis
TLDR
CK-MB can be a good markers of treatment and parasite load in toxocariasis and can be used together with anti-Toxocara IgG in diagnosis and the serum level of CK-MB correlated significantly and positively with parasite load. Expand
Identification of antigenic epitopes of thyroperoxidase, thyroglobulin and interleukin-24. Exploration of cross-reactivity with environmental allergens and possible role in urticaria and hypothyroidism.
TLDR
Through in silico analysis, epitopes of TPO, Tg and IL24 that could be the target of IgE or IgG binding in patients with urticaria or hypothyroidism are identified, suggesting that autoreactivity to these human proteins are not by cross-reactivity. Expand

TLDR
The strong association between the presence of antibodies to Toxocara canis and chronic urticaria is unlikely to be due to chance, however, a causal relation is difficult to establish. Expand
Seroprevalence of toxocariasis in hypereosinophilic individuals in Ahwaz, south-western Iran
TLDR
The present study confirmed the significant prevalence of toxocariasis as a hygienic problem among hypereosinophilic individuals in this area, using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and Western blot techniques. Expand
Seroprevalence and Modifiable Risk Factors for Toxocara spp. in Brazilian Schoolchildren
TLDR
Modifiable factors such as soil contact and personal hygiene appear to have a greater influence on the acquisition of infection than sociodemographic attributes, thus representing direct targets for disease prevention and control. Expand
Tissue Parasites in Patients with Chronic Urticaria
TLDR
It is suggested that parasitic infections should be considered as an important cause of chronic urticaria and serological methods should be used to expose the diagnosis of tissue parasites in such cases. Expand
Frequency of human toxocariasis in a rural population from Cajamarca, Peru determined by DOT-ELISA test.
TLDR
Human toxocariasis is highly frequent in this population and some risk factors like dog/cat ownership, presence of pets within house, and previous history of geophagia were observed in the present study. Expand
