Over the Tibetan Plateau, solar heating often produces strong convective instability in the atmosphere. Using 3 years (1998–2000) of Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) precipitation radar data, our investigations revealed a tower mast shape of precipitation over the Plateau in both height‐longitude and height‐latitude cross‐sections. High rain rate center over the Plateau is located above 6km as a tower penetrating into the mid‐troposphere against the nearby background, implying a…

The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model with Large Eddy Simulation was employed to investigate a local‐scale convective precipitation event at Naqu (altitude of 4.5 km) over the central

A Numerical Investigation on Microphysical Properties of Clouds and Precipitation over the Tibetan Plateau in Summer 2014

In order to improve our understanding of microphysical properties of clouds and precipitation over the Tibetan Plateau (TP), six cloud and precipitation processes with different intensities during

Characteristics of tropopause‐penetrating convection determined by TRMM and COSMIC GPS radio occultation measurements

Distribution and influence of convection in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere have been investigated case by case or on regional to global scale. However, previous studies were limited by

Precipitation seasonality and variability over the Tibetan plateau as resolved by the High Asia reanalysis

AbstractBecause of the scarcity of meteorological observations, the precipitation climate on the Tibetan Plateau and surrounding regions (TP) has been insufficiently documented so far. In this study,

A study of cloud microphysics and precipitation over the Tibetan Plateau by radar observations and cloud‐resolving model simulations

Cloud microphysical properties and precipitation over the Tibetan Plateau are unique because of the high terrains, clean atmosphere, and sufficient water vapor. With dual‐polarization precipitation

Diurnal phase of late-night against late-afternoon of stratiform and convective precipitation in summer southern contiguous China

Using the tropical rainfall measuring mission (TRMM) Precipitation Radar (PR) observations combined with the surface rain gauge data during 1998–2006, the robust diurnal features of summer stratiform

Mesoscale Characteristics and Structures of Stratiform Precipitation on the Tibetan Plateau.

During the GAME-Tibet Intensive Observation Period (IOP), the precipitation radar (PR) of the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite detected a diurnal cycle of rainfall in Tibet. Much

Precipitation Characteristics in Mid-Latitude East Asia as Observed by TRMM PR and TMI

Precipitation radar and microwave radiometer data from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite during the spring and summer months of 1998 are used to study the precipitation

Seasonal characteristics of precipitation in 1998 over East Asia as derived from TRMM PR

Precipitation radar data derived from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite are used to study precipitation characteristics in 1998 over East Asia (10°–38°N, 100°–145°E),
