In contrast to gravity in the weak-field regime, which has been subject to numerous experimental tests, gravity in the strong-field regime is largely unconstrained by observations. We show that gravity theories that pass solar system tests, but that diverge from general relativity in the strong-field regime, predict neutron stars with significantly different properties than their general relativistic counterparts. The range of redshfits of surface atomic lines predicted by such theories is… Expand

TLDR
The prospect of using observations of such compact objects to probe some of the most intriguing general relativistic predictions in the strong-field regime: the absence of stable circular orbits near a compact object and the presence of event horizons around black-hole singularities is reviewed. Probing strong-field scalar-tensor gravity with gravitational wave asteroseismology
We present an alternative way of tracing the existence of a scalar field based on the analysis of the gravitational wave spectrum of a vibrating neutron star. Scalar-tensor theories in strong-fieldExpand

Strong-field tests of gravity using pulsars and black holes
Abstract The sensitivity of the SKA enables a number of tests of theories of gravity. A Galactic Census of pulsars will discover most of the active pulsars in the Galaxy beamed toward us. In thisExpand
