In this paper we investigate the nature of 27 star cluster candidates, most of them projected towards the Galactic anticentre. We derive fundamental parameters for 20 confirmed clusters, among these 7 are new identifications. Four of the remaining are uncertain cases that require deeper photometry to establish their nature, and 4 are probably field fluctuations. In addition, we provide a partial census of the open clusters towards the Galactic anticentre. We also include in this study some… Expand
Tracing the Galactic spiral structure with embedded clusters
In the present work we investigate the properties of 18 embedded clusters (ECs). The sample includes 11 previously known clusters and we report the discovery of 7 ECs on WISE images, thusExpand
New detections of embedded clusters in the Galactic halo
Until recently it was thought that high Galactic latitude clouds were a non-star-forming ensemble. However, in a previous study we reported the discovery of two embedded clusters (ECs) far away fromExpand
New Galactic embedded clusters and candidates from a WISE Survey
Abstract We carried out a search for new infrared star clusters, stellar groups and candidates using WISE images, which are very sensitive to dust emission nebulae. We report the discovery of 437Expand

The spiral structure in the solar neighborhood is an important issue in astronomy. In the past few years, there has been significant progress in observation. The distances for a large number of goodExpand
Evolution of the local spiral structure of the Milky Way revealed by open clusters
The structure and evolution of the spiral arms of our Milky Way are basic but long-standing questions in astronomy. In particular, the lifetime of spiral arms is still a puzzle and has not been wellExpand
The IC 5146 star forming complex and its surroundings with 2MASS, WISE and Spitzer
Throughout the last decade sensitive infrared observations obtained by the Spitzer Space Telescope significantly increased the known population of YSOs associated with nearby molecular clouds. WithExpand
Milky Way Tomography with K and M Dwarf Stars: the Vertical Structure of the Galactic Disk
We use the number density distributions of K and M dwarf stars with vertical height from the Galactic disk, determined using observations from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, to probe the structure ofExpand
The Milky Way spiral structure parameters from data on masers and selected open clusters
To estimate the parameters of the Galactic spiral structure - namely, the pitch angle i and the number of spiral arms,- data on Galactic masers with known trigonometric parallaxes were used. WeExpand
The star formation environment of the FU Ori type star V582 Aur
We have studied the environment of the FU Ori type star V582 Aur. Our aim is to explore the star-forming region associated with this young eruptive star. Using slitless spectroscopy we searched for HExpand
Extracting parameters from colour–magnitude diagrams
We present a simple approach for obtaining robust values of astrophysical parameters from the observed colour-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) of star clusters. The basic inputs are the Hess diagram builtExpand

Towards a census of the Galactic anticentre star clusters – II. Exploring lower overdensities
We investigate the nature of 48 low-level stellar overdensities (from Froebrich, Scholz and Raftery catalogue – FSR07) projected towards the Galactic anticentre and derive fundamental parameters forExpand
Towards a census of the Galactic anticentre star clusters: colour–magnitude diagram and structural analyses of a sample of 50 objects
Aims. In this work we investigate the nature of 50 overdensities from the catalogue of Froebrich, Scholz, and Raftery (FSR) projected towards the Galactic anticentre, in the sector 160 ◦ ≤ ≤ 200 ◦Expand
Revisiting the population of Galactic open clusters
We present results of a study of the galactic open cluster population based on the all-sky catalogue ASCC-2.5 (I/280A) compiled from Tycho-2, Hipparcos and other catalogues. The sample of opticalExpand
Spiral Structure in the Outer Galactic Disk. I. The Third Galactic Quadrant
We combine optical and radio observations to trace the spiral structure in the third quadrant of the Milky Way. The optical observations consist of a large sample of young open clusters andExpand
The Stellar Population and Star Clusters in the Unusual Local Group Galaxy IC 10
We present an analysis of Hubble Space Telescope U, V, I, and Hα images of the peculiar Local Group irregular galaxy IC 10. The images are used to determine the nature of the stellar products in aExpand
The distance to a star forming region in the Outer arm of the Galaxy
We performed astrometric observations with the VLBA of WB89 437, an H2O maser source in the Outer spiral arm of the Galaxy. We measure an annual parallax of 0.167±0.006 mas, corresponding to aExpand
Spitzer Observations of NGC 1333: A Study of Structure and Evolution in a Nearby Embedded Cluster
We present a comprehensive analysis of structure in the young, embedded cluster, NGC 1333 using members identified with Spitzer and 2MASS photometry based on their IR-excess emission. A total of 137Expand
Spiral structure of the third galactic quadrant and the solution to the Canis Major debate
ABSTRACT With the discovery of the Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal (Ibata et al. 1994), a galaxycaught in the process of merging with the Milky Way, the hunt for other such ac-cretion events has becomeExpand
Detection of a young stellar population in the background of open clusters in the Third Galactic Quadrant (implicancies)
We report the detection of a young stellar population (≤100 Myr) in the background of nine young open clusters belonging to a homogenous sample of 30 star clusters in the third Galactic quadrant (atExpand
On the fraction of star clusters surviving the embedded phase
In this paper we derive ages and masses for 276 clusters in the merger galaxy NGC 3256. This was achieved by taking accurate photometry in four wavebands from archival Hubble Space Telescope images.Expand
