Already in the 19th century some of the first clinical and pathological observations related to DIC were made. [] Key Method Traditionally DIC is diagnosed in association with the following

Tables from this paper

Diagnosis and management of sepsis‐induced coagulopathy and disseminated intravascular coagulation

This paper aims to demonstrate the efforts towards in-situ applicability of EMT in the rapidly changing environment by providing real-time information about concrete mechanical properties of the EMT procedure, such as EMTs’ EMT localization and EMT’s EMM localization.

ISTH interim guidance on recognition and management of coagulopathy in COVID‐19

This work aims to contribute towards the humanizing of thrombosis and Haemostasis by promoting awareness of the importance of proper diagnosis and treatment of these conditions in patients.

ISTH overt disseminated intravascular coagulation score in patients with septic shock: automated immunoturbidimetric soluble fibrin assay vs. D‐dimer assay

Differential diagnoses for sepsis‐induced disseminated intravascular coagulation: communication from the SSC of the ISTH

This paper presents a meta-analyses of the immune system’s response to exposure to carbon monoxide and shows clear patterns of decline in the immune systems of Response to Exposure to Carbon monoxide .

A re‐evaluation of the D‐dimer cut‐off value for making a diagnosis according to the ISTH overt‐DIC diagnostic criteria: communication from the SSC of the ISTH

This paper presents a meta-analyses of the determinants of Haemostasis & Thrombosis at the cellular and molecular level and shows clear patterns of progression towards “clinically distinct haematology” and “disease-causing mechanisms”.

DIC in obstetrics: Diagnostic score, highlights in management, and international registry‐communication from the DIC and Women's Health SSCs of the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis

This paper presents a poster presented at the 2016 International Congress of the American Academy of Thrombosis and Hemostasis, presented in New York, where it was the first presentation of this type of poster to be presented in the United States.

Diagnosis and prognosis of overt disseminated intravascular coagulation in a general hospital—Meaning of the ISTH score system, fibrin monomers, and lipoprotein–C‐reactive protein complex formation

The meaning, the utility, and the prognostic significance of the DIC score and other parameters of coagulation activation including soluble fibrin monomer complexes, antithrombin and protein C consumption, and formation of lipoprotein–C‐reactive protein (LP–CRP) complexes were evaluated.

Prospective validation of the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis scoring system for disseminated intravascular coagulation*

A diagnosis of DIC based on a simple scoring system, using widely available routine coagulation tests, is sufficiently accurate to make or reject a diagnosis ofDIC in intensive care patients with a clinical suspicion of this condition.

Acute thrombocytopenia suggesting thrombotic microangiopathy

This research presents a novel and scalable approach to personalized medicine that aims to provide real-time information about the immune system’s response to chemotherapy.

Disseminated intravascular coagulation: objective clinical and laboratory diagnosis, treatment, and assessment of therapeutic response.

Objective clinical and laboratory criteria for diagnosis of DIC have been delineated, thus avoiding needless confusion and empirical decisions regarding the diagnosis, and objective criteria by which therapy may be stopped when continuation is likely fruitless are presented as a guideline.

Outcome of Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation in Relation to the Score when Treatment was Begun

It was found that the PT ratio and the levels of antithrombin, plasminogen, PPIC, the PPIC/TAT ratio, and thrombomodulin were related to outcome, suggesting that very high consumption of blood coagulation factors, liver dysfunction, hypofibrinolysis, or organ failure caused a poor outcome.

Soluble fibrin: A predictor for the development and outcome of multiple organ failure

Soluble fibrin, a marker of hypercoagulation, seems to predict organ system failure and outcome in ICU patients.

Activation of the extrinsic coagulation pathway in patients with severe sepsis and septic shock.

The extrinsic coagulation pathway is activated in patients with severe sepsis and septic shock, and enhanced thrombin generation and activation, and fibrin formation were demonstrated when compared with the control subjects.

Use of the SOFA score to assess the incidence of organ dysfunction/failure in intensive care units: results of a multicenter, prospective study. Working group on "sepsis-related problems" of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine.

The SOFA score is a simple, but effective method to describe organ dysfunction/failure in critically ill patients and regular, repeated scoring enables patient condition and disease development to be monitored and better understood.

[Disseminated intravascular coagulation].

DIC is characterised by evidence of both thrombin and plasmin activation, and may lead to thrombosis in the subacute or chronic form but more often haemorrhage occurs as the clotting factors are exhausted.

Plasma tissue factor and tissue factor pathway inhibitor levels in patients with disseminated intravascular coagulation

It is suggested that plasma TFPI is released from vascular endothelial cells and it may reflect vascular endothelium cell injury in patients with disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).

Comparison of Immunological and Functional Assays for Measurement of Soluble Fibrin

Two immunologic tests using monoclonal antibodies against fibrin-specific neo-epitopes and two functional tests based on the cofactor activity of soluble fibr in complexes in tPA-induced plasminogen activation are compared.

It has become increasingly clear that the so-called anticoagulant systems which act on the proximal factors of the clotting cascade also attenuate the amplification of the inflammatory response.
