This article investigated whether cynicism and depersonalization are two different dimensions ofbumout or whether they may be collapsed into one construct of mental distance. Using confinnatory factor analyses in two samples ofteachers (n = 483) and bluecollarworkers (n =474), a superiorfit was foundforthe four-factormodel thatcontained cynicism, depersonalization, exhaustion, and professional efficacy as dimensions of burnout.
