Kondo insulators are particularly simple type of heavy elec tron material, where a filled band of heavy quasiparticles gives rise to a narrow band insulator. Starting wi th the Anderson lattice Hamiltonian, we develop a topological classification of emergent band structures fo r Kondo insulators and show that these materials may host three-dimensional topological insulating phases . We propose a general and practical prescription of calculating theZ2 strong and weak topological insulator…

This article reviews progress on the topic of electronic correlation effects in the two-dimensional case, with a focus on systems with intrinsic spin-orbit coupling and numerical results.
Topological surface conduction in Kondo insulator YbB12
Kondo insulators have recently aroused great interest because they are promising materials that host a topological insulator state caused by the strong electron interactions. Moreover, recent
The search for strong topological insulators
Topological insulators [1-6] is a new quantum phase of matter with exotic properties such as dissipationless transport and protection against Anderson localization [7]. These new states of quantum
Resistivity saturation in Kondo insulators
Resistivities of heavy-fermion insulators typically saturate below a characteristic temperature T *. For some, metallic surface states, potentially from a non-trivial bulk topology, are a likely
Spin Fluctuations at the Surface of Strongly Correlated Topological Insulator SmB6
The low temperature ( T  < 5 K) electron spin resonance in topological Kondo insulator SmB 6 is investigated. It is shown that spin relaxation time of the paramagnetic centers responsible for low

Abstract Topological Kondo insulator (TKI) is an essential example of interacting topological insulator, where electron’s correlation effect plays a key role. However, most of our understanding on
Discovery of the First Topological Kondo Insulator: Samarium Hexaboride
One of the most important new concepts in modern condensed matter physics is that there are new states of matter where the bulk is an unusual insulator in that it has topologically-protected metallic
Exactly solvable 2D topological Kondo lattice model
A spin- Kitaev sublattice interacting with a subsystem of spinless fermions is studied on a honeycomb lattice when the fermion band is half-filled. The model Hamiltonian describes a topological Kondo
Transport properties of the topological Kondo insulator SmB6 under the irradiation of light
In this paper, we study transport properties of the X point in the Brillouin zone of the topological Kondo insulator SmB6 under the application of a circularly polarized light. The transport
Imaging emergent heavy Dirac fermions of a topological Kondo insulator
The interplay between strong electron interactions and band topology is a new frontier in the search for exotic quantum phases. The Kondo insulator SmB 6 has emerged as a promising platform because
