Topiramate, a sulfamate-substituted monosaccharide, is a new antiepileptic drug (AED) approved as adjunctive therapy for partial-onset seizures in adults. Topiramate is rapidly absorbed, has linear pharmacokinetics, minimal protein binding and a long half-life facilitating a twice-daily dosage regimen.
