BACKGROUND Previous empirical studies of the cognitive sequelae of failure to thrive in infancy have led to apparently inconsistent conclusions. METHODS Studies of cognitive abilities in failure to thrive were located through published bibliographies, supplemented by a search through MEDLINE.
