The ocular structures of Xestoleberididae play an important role in the perception and delin-eation of a “useful” microenvironment in the case of ostracod dwellers that inhabit the aquatic photic zone. In many cases, the colour pattern of the carapace helps the ostracosd to pass unno-ticed by predators. We describe the various types of ocular structures recognized in the carapaces of Xestole-berididae.
