We developed a three-component model to evaluate the present and future hydrological behavior of Ayapel Cienaga under different scenarios of climate variability and human intervention associated with fishing and mining activities and the maintenance of levees. We calibrated the water balance with historical information on hydrological variables, water levels, stream discharges, fishing activities and gold mining records in the period 1985-2015. We use autoregressive statistical models to… Expand

Assessing the Influence of Global Climate and Anthropogenic Activities on the Water Balance of an Andean Lake
Tropical regions along the Andean Cordillera face an uncertain future as mountain lakes and snow peaks exhibit receding trends associated with factors such as climatic precursors and localExpand
Natural and antropogenic emissions to the atmosphere, the growth of the green house gases concentration, global warming, climate and global change are today , one of the most important situations toExpand
Mercury bioaccumulation in fish of commercial importance from different trophic categories in an Amazon floodplain lake
Thirty-two species of commercially important fish from three trophic levels and nine trophics were sampled at a floodplain lake of the Solimoes River and fifteen species showed bioaccumulation, but only eight presented significant correlations between the concentration of Hg and the length and/or the weight of the fish. Evaluation and generalization of temperature‐based methods for calculating evaporation
Seven temperature-based equations, each representing a typical form, were evaluated and compared for determining evaporation at two climatological stations (Rawson Lake and Atikokan) in north-westernExpand
A simple model to predict the duration of the mercury problem in Sweden
Abstract There are about 83 000 lakes in Sweden; about 40 000 lakes have fish (here = 1 kg pike) with Hg-concentrations above the guideline of 0.5 mg Hg/kg ww; about 10 000 lakes have pike withExpand
The influence of Water Hyacinth to Decrease the Heavy Metals Mercury (Hg) Concentration for Irrigation
Research was conducted in July – September 2012, mercury analysis performed in Environmental Engineering of Engineering Faculty, Andalas University. Levels of mercury that are permitted by GovernmentExpand
Mercury uptake and accumulation by four species of aquatic plants.
Water lettuce and water hyacinth appeared to be the most effective, followed by taro and zebra rush, respectively, in removing mercury from water through root uptake and accumulation. Expand
Mercury and gold mining in Colombia : a failed state
Identifying and analyzing the causes and consequences that generate the high consumption of mercury in gold mining activities is an international priority. In Colombia, eighty-seven percent of theExpand
