We present the initial result of a large spectroscopic survey aimed at measuring the timescale of mass accretion in young, pre-main-sequence stars in the spectral type range K0-M5. Using multi-object spectroscopy with VIMOS at the VLT we identified the fraction of accreting stars in a number of young stellar clusters and associations of the ages of between 1-30 Myr. The fraction of accreting stars decreases from ~60% at 1.5-2 Myr to ~2% at 10 Myr. No accreting stars are found after 10 Myr at a… Expand

Photometric determination of the mass accretion rates of pre-mainsequence stars – III. Results in the Large Magellanic Cloud
We present a multiwavelength study of three star-forming regions, spanning the age range 1–14 Myr, located between the 30 Doradus complex and supernova SN 1987A in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC).Expand
Photometric Determination of the Mass Accretion Rates of Pre-main-sequence Stars. IV. Recent Star Formation in NGC?602
We have studied the young stellar populations in NGC?602, in the Small Magellanic Cloud, using a novel method that we have developed to combine Hubble Space Telescope photometry in the V, I, and H?Expand
Accretion onto Pre-Main-Sequence Stars
Accretion through circumstellar disks plays an important role in star formation and in establishing the properties of the regions in which planets form and migrate. The mechanisms by whichExpand
X-shooter spectroscopy of young stellar objects: I - Mass accretion rates of low-mass T Tauri stars in \sigma Orionis
We present high-quality, medium resolution X-shooter/VLT spectra in the range 300-2500 nm for a sample of 12 very low-mass stars in the Orionis cluster. The sample includes eight stars with evidenceExpand
X-shooter spectroscopy of young stars with disks
We investigate ongoing accretion activity in young stars in the TW Hydrae association (TWA, ~8-10 Myr), an ideal target to probe the final stages of disk accretion down to brown dwarf masses. OurExpand
Photometric Determination of the Mass Accretion Rates of Pre-main-sequence Stars. V. Recent Star Formation in the 30 Dor Nebula
We report on the properties of the low-mass stars that recently formed in the central ~ 2.7'x2.7' of 30 Dor including the R136 cluster. Using the photometric catalogue of De Marchi et al. (2011c),Expand
We present a 1.3 mm continuum survey of protoplanetary disks in the 2-3 Myr old cluster, IC348, with the Submillimeter Array. We observed 85 young stellar objects and detected 10 with 1.3 mm fluxesExpand
The evolution of accretion in young stellar objects: Strong accretors at 3 - 10 Myr
While the rate of accretion onto T Tauri stars is predicted to decline with age, objects with strong accretion have been detected up to ages of 10 Myr. We analyze a sample of these old accretorsExpand
Mass accretion rates from multiband photometry in the Carina Nebula: the case of Trumpler 14
We present a study of the mass accretion rates of pre-main sequence (PMS) stars in the cluster Trumpler 14 (Tr 14) in the Carina Nebula. Using optical multiband photometry we were able to identifyExpand
Hubble Space Telescope Measures of Mass Accretion Rates in the Orion Nebula Cluster
The present observational understanding of the evolution of the mass accretion rates (Ṁ_acc) in pre-main-sequence stars is limited by the lack of accurate measurements of Ṁ_acc over homogeneous andExpand

Accretion Disks around Young Stars: Lifetimes, Disk Locking, and Variability
We report the findings of a comprehensive study of disk accretion and related phenomena in four of the nearest young stellar associations spanning 6-30 million years in age, an epoch that mayExpand
Cepheus OB2: Disk Evolution and Accretion at 3-10 Myr*
We presented the results of MMT observations of young stars for our study of protoplanetary disks at ages 1-10 Myr in Tr 37 and NGC 7160. Using low-resolution optical spectra from the HectospecExpand
Accretion and the Evolution of T Tauri Disks
Using results and calibrations from a previous paper (Gullbring et al. 1997), we estimate disk accretion rates for preEmain-sequence stars in the Taurus and Chamaeleon I molecular cloud complexes.Expand
The Keele-Exeter young cluster survey - I. Low-mass pre-main-sequence stars in NGC 2169
We have used R c l c CCD photometry from the Isaac Newton telescope and intermediate-resolution spectroscopy from the Gemini North telescope to identify and characterize low-mass (0.15 < M /M ⊙ <Expand
An XMM-Newton view of the young open cluster NGC 6231 ⋆ III. Optically faint X-ray sources
We discuss the properties of the X-ray sources with faint optical counterparts in the very young open cluster NGC 6231. From their positions in the Hertzsprung‐Russell diagram, we find that the bulkExpand
