In this study, we present a new estimator of transients built from the extrema of a signal decomposition first introduced by Berkner. We study the performance of the new estimator of transients both for a variation of amplitude and a variation of frequency of the signal. We show that the time localization of transients is better estimated with the maxima lines made by the extrema in the time scale-space than with the wavelet coefficients computed with the CWT.
