We analyze the issue of dynamical evolution and time in quantum cosmology. We emphasize the problem of choice of phase space variables that can play the role of a time parameter in such a way that for expectation values of quantum operators the classical evolution is reproduced. We show that it is neither necessary nor sufficient for the Poisson bracket between the time variable and the super-Hamiltonian to be equal to unity in all of the phase space. We also discuss the question of switching… Expand

Construction of quantum Dirac observables and the emergence of WKB time
We describe a method of construction of gauge-invariant operators (Dirac observables or ``evolving constants of motion'') from the knowledge of the eigenstates of the gauge generator inExpand
Time in quantum theory, the Wheeler–DeWitt equation and the Born–Oppenheimer approximation
We compare two different approaches to the treatment of the Wheeler–DeWitt (WDW) equation and the introduction of time in quantum cosmology. One approach is based on the gauge-fixing procedure inExpand
Quantum gravity, time, bounces, and matter
In the context of Quantum Cosmology and the Wheeler-DeWitt equation we investigate the possible effects of a non semiclassical wave-function of the universe on the evolution of the inflationaryExpand
An effective approach to the problem of time
A practical way to deal with the problem of time in quantum cosmology and quantum gravity is proposed. The main tool is effective equations, which mainly restrict explicit considerations toExpand
Preferred basis, decoherence and a quantum state of the Universe
We review a number of issues in foundations of quantum theory and quantum cosmology including, in particular, the problem of the preferred basis in the many-worlds interpretation of quantumExpand
Gauge Fixing and the Semiclassical Interpretation of Quantum Cosmology
Abstract We make a critical review of the semiclassical interpretation of quantum cosmology and emphasise that it is not necessary to consider that a concept of time emerges only when theExpand

TLDR
It is shown that cosmology as a theory of the mean is meaningful and the Schr\"odinger equation for matter is obtained in conformity with previous work where these particular questions were not addressed. Expand
Unitarity approach to quantum cosmology
Abstract A review is presented of the unitarity problem in modern quantum cosmology - quantum gravity theory of spatially closed worlds. Based on the usual path-integral quantization of true physicalExpand
On Gravity's role in Quantum State Reduction
The stability of a quantum superposition of two different stationary mass distributions is examined, where the perturbing effect of each distribution on the space-time structure is taken intoExpand
Non-linear coupling of quantum theory and classical gravity
Discusses the possibility that the non-linear evolution proposed earlier for a relativistic quantum field theory may be related to its coupling to a classical gravitational field. Formally, in theExpand
