The aim of this review is to present briefly background information on 27 tick-borne viruses (“tiboviruses”) that have been detected in Europe, viz flaviviruses tick-borne encephalitis (TBEV), louping-ill (LIV), Tyuleniy (TYUV), and Meaban (MEAV); orthobunyaviruses Bahig (BAHV) and Matruh (MTRV); phleboviruses Grand Arbaud (GAV), Ponteves (PTVV), Uukuniemi (UUKV), Zaliv Terpeniya (ZTV), and St. Abb's Head (SAHV); nairoviruses Soldado (SOLV), Puffin Island (PIV), Avalon (AVAV), Clo Mor (CMV…
Prevalence of tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) RNA in Dermacentor reticulatus ticks from natural and urban environment, Poland
TLDR
Positive results were noted in all investigated localities with the infection rate ranging from 0.99 to 12.5 % with a total mean of 2.12 %.
Detection of Far-Eastern subtype of tick-borne encephalitis viral RNA in ticks collected in the Republic of Moldova.
TLDR
To determine the spread of TBEV-FE to new geographical regions, samples of individual ticks collected from domestic animals and agricultural land in Republic of Moldova between 2010 and 2011 for the presence of T BEV RNA were studied.
Potential Mechanisms of Transmission of Tick-Borne Viruses at the Virus-Tick Interface
TLDR
An initial attempt to comprehensively elaborate on the epidemiological determinants of TBVs with a focus on intra-vector physiological processes involved in the successful execution of the docking, uptake, settlement, replication, and transmission processes of arboviruses.
Identification of tick-borne encephalitis virus in ticks collected in southeastern Hungary.
Tick-borne viruses: a review from the perspective of therapeutic approaches.
Chapter 11: General aspects of epidemiology
TLDR
The data on T BEV seroprevalence in humans and animals can serve as an indication for the presence or absence of TBEV in studied area.
Chapter 11: General epidemiology of TBE
TLDR
The data on T BEV seroprevalence in humans and animals can serve as an indication for the presence or absence of TBEV in studied area.
Comparative Tick-Borne Encephalitis(Virus) Surveillance in Belgium 2009-2015:Experiences with Diagnostic Tests, SentinelSpecies and Surveillance Designs
TLDR
5 Belgian veterinary serological studies with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays and seroneutralisation tests (ELISA/ SNT) substantiated suspicion of TBEV-presence in Belgium from 2010 onwards and have allowed sentinel comparisons based on “suitability criteria”.
Exploring the Reservoir Hosts of Tick-Borne Encephalitis Virus
TLDR
An overview of the multiple factors influencing the TBEV transmission cycle is given, focusing on the role of virus reservoirs, and highlights the questions that are waiting to be further explored.

    Interdisciplinary perspectives on infectious diseases
  • 2009
TLDR
Comparative biogeographic study of eight known natural foci of BHAV infections in Europe has revealed their common features, and Greece, France, Albania, Spain, Hungary, European Turkey, Ukraine, Ukraine (southern), Switzerland (sSouthern), Austria (southeastern), Germany (s southern), Moldova, and European Russia have been predicted as additional European regions where BHAVs might occur.
Seroprevalence of tick-borne and mosquito-borne arboviruses in European brown hares in Northern and Western Germany.
Studies on bunyaviridae including Zaliv Terpeniya virus isolated fromIxodes uriae ticks (Acarina: Ixodidae) in Brittany, France
TLDR
Cape Sizun is notable for the unusual presence of both argasid(Ornithodoros) and ixodid(Ixodes) ticks infesting seabirds in adjacent niches in a single locality, where they are infected by different viruses.
Bahig virus (Tete group) in naturally- and transovarially-infectedHyalomma marginatum ticks from Egypt and Italy
TLDR
The present findings indicate the need for field and laboratory investigations of Tete group epidemiology and factors possibly involving human infections, and confirm Bahig virus, identified by complement-fixation and neutralization teats, from 2 subspecies of Hyalomma marginatum ticks.
Characterization of tick‐borne encephalitis virus from Estonia
TLDR
The results showed that all three known TBEV subtypes, Western T BEV (W‐TBEV), Far‐Eastern TBEv (FE‐T BEV), and Siberian TBEVs, co‐circulate in Estonia, and suggests a different evolutionary history for the Estonian and the Latvian strains in the FE‐TbeV subtype.
Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) trends in epidemiology and current and future management.
Tick-borne encephalitis virus in ticks in Finland, Russian Karelia and Buryatia.
TLDR
TBEV RNA prevalence in unengorged ticks was approximately 1 % both in the northernmost TBE-endemic areas of Europe in Finland and Russian Karelia, and in Siberia in Buryatia.
Genetic reassortment indicates a new grouping for tick-borne orbiviruses.
Tick-borne encephalitis virus in dogs - is this an issue?
The last review on Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) in dogs was published almost ten years ago. Since then, this zoonotic tick-borne arbovirus has been geographically spreading and emerging in many
