Three-spined stickleback Gasterosteus aculeatus (Gasterosteiformes, Gasterosteidae)—A new species in the fish fauna of the Kuybyshev reservoir

Abstract

572 The three spined stickleback Gasterosteus aculea tus is wide spread in the northern part of the Atlantic and Pacific ocean basins. In the European part of Rus sia, it inhabits from the Kola Peninsula and Novaya Zemlya to the Black Sea—in the basins of the Barents, White, Baltic and Black seas. However, in the Pechora River, it is already absent; it is also absent in the basins of the Caspian and Aral seas (Reshetnikov, 2003). In the Kuybyshev reservoir, the three spined stickleback has not been registered thus far (Semenov, 2010); however, there are data about it dwelling in the Volga River basin (Slynko et al., 2011).
