Introduction The genus Bulbothrix Hale (Hale 1974) is based on the Series Bicornutae (Lynge) Hale & Kurokawa of the genus Parmelia Acharius. Its species are easily identifiable by the small, deeply laciniate thalli with marginal bulbate cilia (the main characteristic), atranorin as cortical substance (what differentiates it from the genus Relicina), hyaline, unicellular, ellipsoid or bicornute ascospores, and bacilliform to bifusiform conidia.
