Three new benthic species of Prorocentrum(Dinophyceae) from Belize : P. norrisianum sp. nov., P. tropicalis sp. nov., and P. reticulatum sp. nov.

Three new benthic, photosynthetic dinoflagellate species, Prorocentrum norrisianum, Prorocentrum tropicalis, and Prorocentrum reticulatum, from floating detritus and coral rubble of Central America are described from scanning electron micrographs. Species were identified based on shape, size, surface micromorphology, thecal plate ornamentation, and architecture of the periflagellar area and intercalary band.
