Common name: Iwame (Japanese). Conservation status: Kimura & Nakamura (1961) first reported markless masu trout ‘iwame’ (Oncorhynchus iwame) as a new species. To date, six landlocked O. iwame populations have been found in Japan. They are distributed sporadically along a 900 km straight line between Ôita and Ibaragi Prefectures (Kimura 1989).
